1. No such thing as "fossil fuel".
Are you really playing semantics with the age old and ubiquitous term "fossil fuel?" And no, I not suggesting the 'gas*' in my car came from the bones of a triceratops.

*And I know, "gas" isn't actually a gas at 1 atm (well, depending on temp)...so please don't try to split that hair either.

It's abiogenesis. If hydrocarbons only came from fossils, then what happened to the dinosaurs on the Titan moon of Saturn? Likewise, why does the Peak Oil date and peak amount keep extending?
LOL...you think that all hydrocarbons = "fossil fuels?" You can have hydrocarbons that aren't fossil fuels. See Titan...doubt there is much petroleum aka "crude oil" there but hydrocarbons are plentiful Wink

Now, all fuels CLASSIFIED as "fossil fuels" are indeed hydrocarbons.

2. I agree that electric is probably better than IC for longevity, speed, and torque. However, you don't get the vroom vroom, and that matters to purists.
No one above 8 years old or not going through a mid-life crisis cares more about "vroom vroom" than performance. Otherwise they'd just get a speaker playing the sound while they relaxed by the pool.

When you go to a car dealer, do you say "show me a sports / performance car" or "me want vroom vroom noise" Heck, you could make a Ford Fiesta (or a Toro lawn mower for that matte) go "vroom vroom" for about about $50. And what a pathetic show either would be.

and (2) they need to figure out the battery because lithium isn't it (it pollutes and relies on other metals). Maybe, Al-ion. Likewise, if added energy source is need to charge all these batteries, then current renewable isn't working. They need nuclear or fusion.
Wait, so you are playing semantics with "fossil fuels" but confuse an element off the periodic table as battery technology? Are you saying lithium mines are pulling batteries out of the earth? Come on dude, if you are going to be that demanding in your nomenclature...you better keep it up. Unless you think a pile of lithium [wikipedia.org] is going to power a car. Guess there are lithium batteries on Titan as well Wink

So Tesla slashed their prices.

When looking at EV SUV, no other manufacture has a comparably performance / range offering for a cheaper price.

The hyundai, kia, volvo, audi are 60k+ in a comparable trim with no tax incentive

ford/VW are slower with less range, and still more expensive

So Tesla, as of today is the best value for money buy. On top of being the best speed / range wise. And undoubtedly best infrastructure. Chargers everywhere, chargers are maintained and are not constantly down.

I am not a fan of Tesla or Elon. But for EV, after the price cuts, the clear choice when it comes to price and other EV considerations is Tesla by a mile.
I disagree with this. It depends upon the intended use. I am in the market for an EV for commuting to work. It is 22 miles round trip, so a Bolt or Leaf would be perfect for me and of much better value than a Tesla.

just curious why not a plug in hybrid if that's the case? one car solved all your need
22 miles round trip battery only, then on long road trip you get high mpg of a hybrid car,
Prius prime been just boring reliable, every leaf has really bad rep for air cool battery (unless its now cool by AC these days), Bolt has issue with battery exploding while charging

Like many people stated, Ford dealers are stupidly greedy marking up these like $10k over MSRP. It's a hassle to deal with all the clowns at the dealers. That's why Tesla won the EV section market.

comparing the Mach E vs the Model Y, I know the range is shorter for the Ford, but at a starting price of $7-$10k less, I'm seeing the Mach E as a better value. Was considering a Tesla but now planning to test drive the Ford. Thoughts?
I'm a 2018 model 3 owner that is trading in to get the new Y. Even the standard range AWD Mach E costs $49k with no tax credit, I ordered my long range Y for $53k and I will be getting the $7500 tax credit. Now whether you think you want/need the extended range that's purely personal.

Also if you think you will need to charge out on the road frequently you should REALLY think long and hard about if you have the infrastructure around where you live with the Mach E. Tesla's charging network is vastly superior in terms of both numbers and reliability. I have some ChargePoint and Electrify America chargers in the mall that I frequent and there are always issues with them.

LOL...feels like you are describing a Ford.
Nope, nobody who has tried the two vehicles would ever say that, if they were being objective and unbiased.

Not sold on pure electric vehicles yet but wouldn't mind having one as a second vehicle to beat around town if prices come down to a reasonable level.
It'll be the other way around. The EV becomes the primary and the gasser becomes secondary for the odd long trip.

and specifically I'm talking about the new Ford Mach-e and F150 Lightning compared to especially a Tesla Model 3 or Tesla Model Y

Why would you get one of these instead of a tesla?
Serious Answer: folks might prefer the aesthetics of the Mach-E (I think it's a good looking EV), no plans to travel far from home (charging networks other than Tesla's are terrible for roadtrips), you prefer the Ford brand, you want a physical knob...

No comment on the deal, but that Ford put the Mustang badge on this thing. 🤡🤡🤡 Just how?
I didn't love the name, but it's been 3+ years (of sold out production btw) and you're still complaining about that, I think their marketing won... They're not going to change it back, stop giving them free head space.

For me the Mustang name to me took a dent when they made a 4-cyl version. But also, My Mach E GT runs circles around my V8 Mustang, to me would be weirder if they had a lineup of faster vehicles that weren't Mustang branded.

Edit: to comment on the deal itself. This is great news for anyone with a current/recent order, but I think just one of a few steps Ford needs to take to remain competitive. I do love mine, but I've got one of the first GTs that I've been driving nearly a year and a half already, and I paid closer to 60k pre tax credit. If I were in the market right now I'd like to see some more substantial improvements to range, cold weather performance, etc. EVs are really close to main stream, and this may work out great for you too, but not quite there yet, I won't be getting rid of my gas car for probably 5 years.

Pretty funny - how much speed do you need? Per Car and Driver [caranddriver.com]:
  • We tested the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, and it reached 60 mph in 3.7 seconds on its way to a 12.7-second quarter-mile at 101 mph.
  • It was 1.2 seconds quicker to 60 mph and 0.9 second quicker through the quarter-mile than the standard Mustang Mach-E we tested, but the GT Performance recorded a lower trap speed.
  • We noticed that the GT Performance started to severely limit power after about 80 mph, and was actually 2.1 seconds slower to reach 110 mph than a lesser Mach-E 4X.

Ford absolutely qualifies for the tax credit.

Tesla is supposed to open up their charging network to everyone and that will be a huge help.
