Really good saw, really good deal. I would keep the battery though. That way you have one charging while the other one is in use. In my experience you need HO batteries to power this saw, regular batteries tend to go in protection mode after a bit of use, my guess is due to overheating from high current draw. $600 for a great saw, rapid charger, and two 8 ah ho batteries is pretty good.
10" should also be the sweet spot for most people unless you want to do finish carpentry.
Second time in three years I see the miter being hackable. I purchased my Milwaukee miter for $349, maybe two years ago. I say jump on this. Weird thing I noticed is that bother miter and table saw tool only are out of stock. Wonder if they were hackable earlier today
I think sweet spot is a 7-1/4" slider with battery (Ryobi, Ridgid, Craftsman, etc.) and a 10" plug in slider from top brands (DeWalt, etc.). The 10" saws are too heavy to really be portable so no real reason to not plug them in unless you're working on job site with no power. If you're doing finish carpentry work a 12" or 10" fixed blade probably better anyways due to accuracy without the rails.
I really wish these had corded capabilities too. I have the M18 radius light and it's so nice to be able to plug it in if you have power nearby when working for long periods or to even act as another battery charger
There was a Ryobi HP Brushless 10" sliding compound miter saw hack for $144 last month. I don't see how this Milwaukee, made at the same TTI factory can be three-times-the-price better.

I am in agreement for the most part. I have a Makita 10" cordless miter and its a beast. Don't get me wrong, I love it though.
On thing I do like about my Makita is the sliding rail system, it doesn't take up a lot of depth.
I do like that Milwaukee has the shadow blade guide on a lot of their saws vs lasers on competition.

All depends on what you use it for
