I've bought a couple of the X16 16TB drives from ServerPartDeals. One of them developed some worrying signs. They don't offer advance replacements for RMAs, so buy n+1 if you desire having a cold spare. That said, they refunded my old drive no-questions-asked when I said my NAS wasn't liking it. I did also have to pay shipping out of pocket to return the old drive.
I would discourage a novice from shopping at ServerPartDeals since they don't offer support regarding user questions (as their site states). Also, refurb drives should be thoroughly tested at receipt. The terms you listed refer to, in order: logical sector size, secure erase capabilities (via encryption), data transfer protocol (SAS vs SATA), and legacy PSU power adapter. I don't have time to explain all these but will say that consumer drives are 512e SATA. You can ignore the encryption but the power disable pin will depend on your existing hardware. I don't think the savings are worth it for getting just a drive or two and a potential headache compared to retail store w/ full mnf. warranty and open support.
I purchased the 14 TB Exos X16 drive from serverpartdeals a few weeks ago. It works just fine as a replacement for the 1 TB drive that came with the computer, and it's a fast (for a spinner) drive. They're not kidding about near-instantaneous formatting.
One tip: decide ahead of time whether you want it to use BitLocker, because it took about 28 hours to remove BitLocker encryption from the 14 TB drive that was about one-third full.

I decided to pull the trigger on the iron wolf drive. Hopefully no problems. I'd recommend veracrypt over bitlocker for encryption. Decryption will def take more than 1 day.

Going through that now lol. I couldn't figure out why I was replacing files I was quite certain I had, without realizing that one of my drives had bitlocker on it, so when the pc restarted and the drive wasn't unlocked, the files on the drive weren't showing in the program I was using to view the contents remotely.

Not that my mom would have been able to figure out how to unlock the drive, but I'm removing it now.

At least now that it's started I no longer have unlock it with a key, even after a restart

Any rough estimate to how much shipping was for the RMA?

I would order one of these wd mfr decertified drives, but the 30 days from receipt of package is going to keep me away.

2 yr warranty, but only 30 days to return to sender, and I likely won't be able to test it in that amount of time.

So I'll be stuck with the bb easy store drives for a bit more money and less capacity because I can pick up in store.

As a home user who wants a drive or two for game roms and music storage which of the WD drives should I get? I'm not running a server at this time. Sorry for the question but I don't understand what some of the options (512e, ise, sas, power disable, etc.) mean to me as a home user.
