Some day I'm going to invest the four hours to drive to the nearest MicroCenter and drop $2k. I'm going to be so happy that day....until then, I'll lament the fact that I can't take advantage of any of their slick deals.

Remember that the 5700X doesn't come with a cooler. For the majority of people, the cooler that comes with the lower-end CPUs will do just fine. You're not going to find a CPU cooler for less than $20. Keep that in mind when looking at this deal and be honest with yourself about what you're going to do with this CPU. If you're just using this for gaming, I would choose the 5600X or 5600 over this. Save that money for a future upgrade or put it toward your GPU.

Great effing deal. Extra cores vs the 5600x and more efficient than the 5800x. Unless you're doing the 5800x3D, this is a strong contender

Just for comparison I got the 5800x for 200 so this is a great deal. The 5800x is 12% faster due to the higher clock speed and efficiency can be achieved without much performance hit using the bios eco mode. You might consider spending $36 more for 12% performance gain.

The other option is to get $129 Ryzen 5 5600 - $25 coupon = $104

5600: 6cores 12 threads for $104 V.S 5700x: 8cores 16 threads for $164

That's $60 in difference for 2 cores 4 threads.

Hmm. Compared to the Ryzen 5500 that I got for about $100 recently, this has 35% better performance for a 64% higher price.
the way i see it, you should consider the cost of the whole build, since even though the cpu might have 35% more performance, you can't run on just the cpu.

so a $64 increase on a $1k pc is just 6.4%, for example. 35% performance for an overall 6.4% increase in total cost doesn't sound bad at all.

if i could buy a $200 gpu vs a $100 gpu and get 50% more gaming performance (let alone double), i would pay that extra $100.

of course, media outlets can only really compare the cost of the cpu because everyone's pc cost is different.

Anyone else bothered by new customer coupon deals? I get that it's great for someone who's never shopped a store before, but how many people that are going to shop at Microcenter have never shopped at Microcenter? Diminishing value prospect makes me feel 🤮

5600X uses 65w vs 5800X 130w

Bought my 5600X 6 months ago for $159.99 from microcenter. Comparable price now but uses twice the power for nearly the same performance, what 8-12% more processing?

have the 7 3700x on my B450m pro-vdh board and am just wondering if this would be a good enough upgrade to get. I primarily use my PC for video editing, but LOVE killing COD zombies while podcasting.

Eh... What FPS and resolution are you targeting with what videocard?

COD games haven't been super CPU intensive.

Huh? The cooler that came with my 5600x was loud and not very effective. There was a deal here for the I-never-heard-of ventoo cooler with a fan. Even that fan was quieter than what came with the 5600x.

Not having a cooler is no big loss, cause you'll eventually want to dump the loud oem fan and cooler.

I was able to get a 5800x for 200 before but returned when 5700x showed up around this price range, i was concerned about cooling and wattage issues so I opted to get the 5700x, I had a 3700x before, I think this runs cooler than that
