When you say stain, understand that there are oil based stains and water based stains that penetrate wood. Then there is all the other crap that manufacturers call stain, which is actually a film forming substance that sits on the surface. Real stain doesn't peel or crack or flake, that water based film former does. Additionally, if you use some semi transparent film forming stains, they tend to leave lap marks and some run a lot. So with a roller, not knowing your experience level, you could possibly leave visible roller marks all over the fence.
I do little pressure washing and staining decks as my side hustle. Trying to move into the log home market with better margins.
My extension on my sprayer has a swivel I can work from the gun. It is a specific type of swivel head made to rotate from the gun while doing decks and fences.
