Been looking for a portable SSD that I can work off real-time, I occasionally do video editing work and would LOVE to work off such a drive. From my limited research, it seems I should really get something with Thunderbolt 3/4 but was wondering if this drive can handle photo/video editing? I tried looking up this part number online and can't quantify the exact type of storage used, presumably these are NVMe chips?
Thx.

It actually may be cheaper to get a M.2 nVME drive in the size you want, only need to get a Gen3, and an external NVME enclosure. Those go on sale all the time, I have three, and pop NVME drives in and out as needed.
It wo't be as rugged as this, but will be more flexible if you need to swap out drives.

Also it's been this price for a number of months, so I'm not sure this is a bargain at this point.
Im super perplexed in these forums how peeps come on her buying the *cheapest* thing they can get in whatever category then asking if it can solve the multiverse. huh?

Lacie Rugged Pro SSD Thunderbolt
2800MB/s. About $449.
Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD USB-C
2000MB/s. About $220
Sandisk Extreme SSD USB-C
1050MB/s. About $170
Crucial X8 SSD USB-C
1050MB/s. About $140 ($130 this sale)
Crucial X6 SSD USB-C
800MB/s. About $120
The LaCie Thunderbolt is fastest. The Sandisk Extreme PRO USB-C is next fastest at twice the speed of this Crucial drive. For professional editing, both are good with the edge going to the LaCie Thunderbolt. The Sandisk Extreme Pro is half the price, so a good value.
This Crucial X8 and the Sandisk Extreme (non-Pro) are good for general office and personal storage, but not up to par as a professional editing drive. You can use them with a Mac M1, for example, but will notice some lag taking roughly twice as long to read/write. If you're a hobbyist this might be OK, but if your income depends on deadlines you should invest in one of the faster options.

The reason why this is important is because this x8 has a better cache than the Samsung t7. This slows down supposedly at 280gb where the t7 slows down much sooner.
So, are specs relevant even on 'cheaper' drives? Yes. Just as relevant on more expensive options.
