I'm trying to find more info on this. Their website states "Our sardines are harvested in the North Pacific Ocean, working with well-managed fisheries in Japan that practice sustainable harvesting of targeted free-swimming schools of sardines." Then a picture on the website shows a "processed in Thailand" tag.The Amazon listing shows "processed in Vietnam" on the side of the packaging. Not sure which is newer.
Most likely the fish are caught in the north Pacific and then transferred to Thailand or Vietnam to be canned. It's fairly standard practice.

Bought at Costco ... Texture and taste were terrible. Back in the day, sardines were firm and had small soft bones and the skin. These were over processed skinless boneless and mushy. Reminded me of pet food.

The last time this went on sale was Jan 12th, 2023. I placed a subscription immediately, it got delayed a few times and didn't arrive until today.

Trader Joes smoked sardines are my fav ~$1.69. Worth the extra 32 cents a can. Also wild caught.
Trader Joe's unfortunately have a somewhat artificial "smoke flavor" addition

I agree they are tasty. But it's a different product really.

I've had a similar experience, though I think the difference can be explained by origin. The Atlantic (Portugal / Morocco) tend to be smaller, more moist, more flavorful.
These ones are from the North Pacific, they're bigger and drier.

Thanks for the info. We like the Seasons Brand also.
Seasons Brand looks like they also use Atlantic sardines

I like the brand Mina (also Atlantic... Portugal / Morocco I believe)

This brand uses sardines from the North Pacific. I guess they tend to be bigger, meatier, but dryer and less flavorful. I prefer the Atlantic sardines by a mile. I eat the Mina brand ones straight from the can about 3-5x/week.

I agree, I bought these at Costco last year and they were disgusting. Ended up giving them to the cat. Prefer the Season Brand by a mile
These are Pacific caught vs. Atlantic caught

And these are packed in olive oil... that's true... but they're also packed with plenty of water...

I find cans with Atlantic caught sardines that are packed just in olive oil (not evened out with water like these are) are great. These -- not so much.

Tks, picked up a pack. I'll eat about any sardine, and don't really have a known preference. Whole Foods used to have fresh ones for pretty cheap that were excellent roasted with some seasoning on them. Unfortunately, they never came back around once the covid stuff changed so many things. I've asked a few times but seems like they just aren't going to carry them anymore.

I don't like this brand. The smoke is fake and it's sourced in Vietnam.
What's wrong with fish from Vietnam?

Wild Planet is a good brand in Costco, based on my taste. Their tuna is the best, again it suits my taste
