Convenience. You don't always want to keep a driver magnetized, such as around sensitive electronics.
Looking at this comparison video [youtube.com], I'm amazed at how much bigger the Wiha handle is than the Klein's. I just may have to try the Wiha to be able to get a little more torque on those sometimes stubborn washing machine bolts. Also note that the shafts appear to be identical, all the parts and bits should be able to be interchanged at will.

If US made is important to you, these Wihas are made up in MN, not Germany. The Kleins are now Taiwan, I believe.

And disregard what I said above about 5/16" bits as that only applies to the 6-in-1s. All the bits in these 11-in-1s are 1/4" hex double ended with a ball detent - which is pretty much universal for this style of multi-driver.
You must be fun at parties.

If this was a 1/4" bit driver with bit storage in the shaft it would be cool. I can't do proprietary bits any more.

I see nothing really proprietary about these bits. Any multi-driver brand's double ended, ball retainer, hex bits of the appropriate diameter should fit. I have Klein, Craftsman, Performax, Irwin, Harbor Freight. etc. and they are all interchangeable. I see no reason why these wouldn't be as well.

Malco makes great stuff. Have the stubby…works with any 1/4" bit. Great handle, not big and fat like these x-in-one.

Come to think of it, I need the regular one, too.

What is the purpose of having a magnetizer/demagnetizer? I understand what they do, but how would they be used in practice?

According to the reviews, these aren't interchangeable.

Why not? What is it about this brand's 1/4" and 5/16" nut driver ends that would preclude any other multi-driver brands double ended 1/4" or 5/16" hex bits from fitting?

I have half a dozen or so of this style of driver and have never encountered incompatibility between brands. So I'd be really curious to see what it is that would make this brand any different - if any difference actually exists.

I agree with your description and why everything should be compatible. Maybe zee germans were able to come up with some incredible design technology to really make it proprietary? Big Grin Don't know. I haven't compared it against my Klein firsthand.
