Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Yep. Because chat said it checks for last connected IMEI or whatever so as long as it's not inserted into different phone it won't cause a problem. But on the other hand Very small number of people will be porting in a throwaway number.

"very small number of people will be porting in a throwaway number..." that's a generalization. I'm sure plenty of SDers don't even remember the numerous numbers they ported into Fi for all the deals.

Looks like i will be able to use the 100 fi credit from the s22 fi preorder offer on this. Went ahead and ordered it based on that alone. Still had about 70 dollars in credit left

True. And you could even have two physical SIM cards at the same time. Don't have to use eSIM
You can't with US models. Those don't support 2 physical SIM cards.

One important note people.

For 120 days every night at 12 Fi will ping the SIM, if it is not inserted into the phone you bought you get 500$ charged back. You have to use the Fi SIM in the S23 you buy for entire duration of promo. Learned it the hard way.
Not true. I got the ZFold 4 and activated with their SIM and using with Verizon & TMobile and my counter is 13 days left. I inserted Verizon Sim after I saw the counter working on Fi site. Fi Sim is in my drawer. As long as you don't insert the Fi Sim in another device you are good.

Is it a hard requirement that the Google Fi sim cannot go into another device?
My GF want to switch carrier and she's an iPhone user, while I don't want to switch carrier, but I want this phone. So I want to let her port in the # but keep using her iPhone 14, while I get the S23 Ultra, will it workable for this promo?
I don't know for sure. I purchased Fold4 and I thought the $1000 risk was not worth it, so i didn't use the Google sim on any device.

And I don't recommend it, as the risk is of $600.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you...
I thought that you would receive the discount after 180 days of service as long as you activate the device with the Fi sim and do not put that sim in another device for the remainder of the promo period. Like others have said, activate the phone with Fi, remove the sim card, use sim card from another carrier, do not use Fi sim in another phone...

wait a month or two , samsung will offer $1000 . waited even more for $1000 + free stuffs
yeh, Samsung's trade in value with preorders directly from their webpage is so horrible. Come on 500 for a s22u? I remember my note 10 had better trade in value of like 600 for the s22u last year. Wake me up when trade in for the s22u is 1000+ free ear buds... lol.
With the recession samsung should have given 1k trade in value straight out of the gate...

He's wrong and even corrected himself in a follow up post. He meant you can't put that SIM in another device.

Not much incentive to go for the S23+ unless the size of the Ultra turns you off. If the Plus adjusts down to $399 like it is for the S22+ Fi deal, I'm in.

you only pay 600 plus tax on the 600 bucks for the s23u. Discounted right away. You will only get charged the remainder amount of the full price if you break those rules or not keep service for 180 days.

Strange that the trade-in for S22+ 256 GB is only $190.

I purchased the S22 under the existing promo - due to a delay in arrival it will come later this week. I'm debating if I want to open it and then go through the hassle of returning it before this one arrives or not. Has anyone had any experiences with Fi returns on devices? I have 30 days to activate it with the promo, but this phone should arrive in a few weeks, but we all know how preorder shipping delays happen. Worth it to open and return, or just return unopened back to Fi?

I'm shocked there aren't as many strings attached for existing users, I looked historically to see what promos were last year and before with existing users, and it was all "bill credit". I screen recorded the entire purchase process including opening up the terms, screenshots are so yesterday, screenrecord anything of note with cashback or promos! The biggest difference between this and the S22 I have arriving is that the S23 gives me 256gb and 120 days to remain on the plan vs 30 days.
Keep the S22. Get the S23 also! I take it the S22 that just came was basically free, correct? If you are an existing user it only has to be on Fi for 30 days to vest the Fi discount on the phone.

You can wait a few days after activating your S22 and then order an S23, which gives you another 30 days after they ship it to activate that new S23 once it arrives. Once the S22 vests you simply activate the S23 (it will be within 30 days of ordering). It will replace the now fully paid for and promo-satisfied S22 on your account. The longer you wait to order the S23 the longer you have at the other end to activate it (after your S22 vests).

If you are worried that this deal will go away, based on past years it will likely actually get better in time.

This is assuming you have another phone to trade in for the S23 in addition to whatever you traded on the S22.
