Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Hi, I know this is pre-order. Does anyone know when will the order be actually shipped? I have a spare Visible prepaid phone number that is going to last 30 days (after 30 days, I won't continue to pay it). Of cuz the system accepts that Visible number as eligible port-in. But what if the phone arrives after 30 days that my Visible service is terminated then? I think there is a risk there that, I have to keep my Visible number active until the phone arrives (additional cost).
samsung estimates feb 17 for both s23 and s23+, so towards end of Feb is a safe assumption

Keep the S22. Get the S23 also! I take it the S22 that just came was basically free, correct? If you are an existing user it only has to be on Fi for 30 days to vest the Fi discount on the phone.

You can wait a few days after activating your S22 and then order an S23, which gives you another 30 days after they ship it to activate that new S23 once it arrives. Once the S22 vests you simply activate the S23 (it will be within 30 days of ordering). It will replace the now fully paid for and promo-satisfied S22 on your account. The longer you wait to order the S23 the longer you have at the other end to activate it (after your S22 vests).

If you are worried that this deal will go away, based on past years it will likely actually get better in time.

This is assuming you have another phone to trade in for the S23 in addition to whatever you traded on the S22.
Thanks for your post. I did not trade in anything for either phone. I was working on the barebones S22/S23 (not Ultra). If I read everything correct and activate it when it arrives tomorrow, it would require 30 days of activation, which would put me at March 3rd-5th (breathing room to be safe). If this device shipps on the 17th, that gives me 30 days from shipping confirmation (not order confirmation). So I would then have to activate S23 by March 17th. OR I also had thought of returning the S22 before the return period closes Feb 22. That's assuming the S23 ships on time. Would it be better to just sell it on Swappa if I've only used for a month, or better to just return?

Can I run dual sim with Fi (physical sim that ships with the phone) and another carrier at the same time?

You need port in a number if you are NOT an existing Google Fi customer.

I want to do this so I can get the S23 at a good price.

I will be a new customer, So I get a new number, a $25 monthly service and after 120 days I can cancel and the phone is mine?

If you have both the 22U and SIM in your possession, put the SIM immediately back into the correct phone and hope for the best and update us. If they are only periodically updating the last used IMEI, it might save you but who knows.
My wife has the S22U but as I mentioned, I am traveling and not returning until next week, so I don't have a way to put the SIM in it. If it is true that they check the last used IMEI, then I am screwed. What I am thinking now is to just remove my credit cards from Google Pay and just keep a deactivated credit card I had in there. Probably wise to start backing up my emails and phones just in case...

Why it bothers Fi whether I use the device or resell? They are not even the manufacturer of this phone.
Because they want to sell the phone to people interested in Google Fi service instead of phone flippers. This is the whole point of the promotion.

You have the math correct. I dont know what the S22 is going for on Swappa, but you can also keep it for later trade in value once the S22 gets decent trade in values (it currently is less than the S21). As to dual sim with Fi, I never mess with my Fi phones while they are in the discount vesting stage. Others may be able to answer that better.

I did the dual SIM for the Fold 4 promotion. I have Google Fi SIM still installed and have my own T-Mobile number as eSIM.
