Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

I know there is some confusion on whether Google Voice numbers ported in will work with this promo, since it says the line needs talk, text and data, but wouldn't you know well within the return period if the Google Voice number gets denied the promotion?
I went with Tello, $6 for piece of mind is worth it

Once i insert the sim, do i need to leave it there for a certain amount of time or can I remove the sim and put in my tmobile sim to use?
leave it in for a few hours, make some calls and send some texts just to make sure the imei is activated on the system. Turn off data from the phone and fi website settings page to prevent unintentional usage.
Under Fi billing page it'll show a promotions section, and check marks next to each step.
As soon as you see a check mark next to "activate device within 30 days" you can take the sim out.

Other users don't report issues with leaving the sim in a drawer for 6 months, but i would probably take it out once a month and make a call or two, again this is being overly cautious and not required.

Fi also supports esim for S23 series, so you can go that route if you want to just leave the esim in the phone and turn it on and off from there.

Can you stack S23 promo with $20 refer credit
Me and my friends both want to purchase S23 from Google Fi using the promo.

The refer term says:

This offer can be combined with other offers unless otherwise stated.

The S23 Promo term says:
Unless otherwise stated, this offer cannot be combined with other offers.

Seems risky to let him use my promo code at the end of checking out when placing an order for the device? Maybe better let him join Fi first using my refer link and then place an order as an exising fi user?

They are giving only $280 for 256gb S22 Ultra :-(
Yes but they're only charging you $600 for the phone, Samsung is charging you $1,200 for the phone and only giving you $500 for a trade in.

So you're looking at spending $320, Plus your phone the s22 ultra, to get the phone. Of course whatever else there are for obligations for Google Fi

Samsung you would be getting $700 plus your phone to get the s23 ultra unlocked.

Wait for sometime. Samsung devalues their products quite aggressively. Looking at the past price trends, it's just a matter of time.
Honestly I think with the Android it's best to wait like 12 to 18 months after a phone comes out. If it's Samsung or Google or OnePlus it'll still get another 3 years of security updates and so on. And you end up paying $0.40 on the dollar.

You can get an s22 ultra for $550 a Pixel 6 pro for under $400 right now. I imagine in a year you'll be able to get the s23 ultra and the pixel 7 pro for a similar price on the resale market.

Obviously a lot of people want to have the latest but with me I look at it more like video games. I like to wait 12 to 14 months and get everything pretty cheap. Might not have been feasible when Android devices were only getting two years of software support but no Samsung OnePlus and Google are all off when 5 years of security patches.

In fact we might even see the Samsung phones depreciate faster now that Samsung is not offering valuable trade-ins.

OK I got a Google Fi SIM card in-store and activated it in my current S22. Will wait the 48-72 hours as advised by a previous poster before purchasing the S23 Ultra on Google's end and will transfer the SIM over to the S23 Ultra to activate it there, then pop in my current AT&T SIM card and stuff the Google Fi SIM in the drawer,

Actually, I might end up using Google Fi when I go to Asia in a few months since it looks like it's just a flat $10/GB for international roaming which isn't bad and I don't use that much data while traveling anyways, so the Google Fi SIM might end up being more useful to me than expected.

Is it possible to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same Google Fi account? Ideally I'd like to have my AT&T SIM as primary and Google Fi as an eSIM for international data as-needed without having to swap SIM cards physically all the time.

Is Google fi talk over internet? Meaning you have to have WiFi or data on your phone to talk? Also, do callers hear what one hears when calling a Google voice number?

I have a voip number through telnyx which was ported from 8x8. It does have voice and text but I'm not sure about data. Should I risk it or port over a number from T-mobile?

No. Fi uses the tmobile network. For calls its no different than any of the big 3 providers.
