Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

I did this on the s22, started the order,
1.-choose the 5 lines per $100 did the 5 lines porting

2.-each member ordered the phones and the individual trade ins,

you can always chat or call during the process for assurance
For step 1, how were you able to port in the other lines? Did you select the They'll choose later option? I tried but having to select the other phones to order since I am not a current fi member.

lavender order moved from Feb. 17-20 to Mar. 6-13 too 😭
I am a "stepchild" here because I ordered a base S23, not an Ultra. My 256GB green S23 ordered on 2/2 still shows Feb 17-20.

Anyone tried using Ting for new number and porting into FI? It's only $1 for the SIM card at Best Buy.

Edit: Contacted them through chat and they say they don't have service in my area even though their web tool states I do, glories of living in the country I guess

Can i use a different phone number than the one Google checks when placing an order? I'd like to get a prepaid number off ebay but those are only good for a certain number of days, my plan is to order the prepaid one when the phone arrives
I read earlier in the thread that you can change your port-in information up until the moment you activate the SIM. This is a great question though -- what's the best/cheapest way to do the port since Boost numbers purchased off eBay will have expired by the time the phones arrive? I'm in the same boat, and there's no way I'm providing my real information as I'm paying next to nothing on T-Mobile and don't want to screw that up in any way. Maybe others will chime in.

Mine is white as well...I'm sure there will be a lot of date changing...meanwhile folks in Europe are already receiving their phones.

Fast Forward to almost 4 months from now.....

When the 4 months is up, cleared to cancel Google Fi (they royally suck) and the $600 is changed from "in Progress" to "Earned" .

So, if you have for example 5 days left you must remain before cancelling, can you start the process of using this phone for a new trade in with another provider? Not doing anything to mess with Google Fi, but will use device's IMEI with other provider as trade-in.

Since it takes a couple weeks for new phone from other provider to arrive, and then a couple weeks before you need to send in the old trade in, will this work, or will you risk losing the "In Progress" deal when you start the trade with other carrier?

Wish to trade in S22 from past Google Fi deal for T-Mobile S23 Ultra, as they give $800 trade in value for base model S22, and hope the above will work.

Google fi really won't know unless someone tried to activate the phone on fi. That's the only way really for the promotion to get cancelled.

I need cell phone insurance. How is the Google Fi Assurant phone insurance. I've used Verizon's Asurian where they replaced my S21U 5 times due to OIS failing without charging me a deductible.

Any other insurance companies that is recommended?

Upsie.

Or, get a credit card that has cell phone insurance built in. There are a couple that have no annual fee. Chase freedom flex, for one.

FWIW, I've shipped Fi phones to resellers up to 15 days before the phones completed their terms and haven't run into problems. I figured that it'd take 3-4 days for the phone to reach the resellers, get inspected and paid. In the remaining 10 days or so, the chance of it getting bought and used on Fi by the new owner is slim. After all, the resellers sell the phones for more than what one can get from Fi. If someone knows about Fi service, surely they know about the Fi promos and would buy directly from Fi.
