Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Or, get a credit card that has cell phone insurance built in. There are a couple that have no annual fee. Chase freedom flex, for one.
My Wells Fargo Autograph card has free insurance for cell phones.

Anyone tried using Ting for new number and porting into FI? It's only $1 for the SIM card at Best Buy.
Porting a Google Voice number was a lot easier.

It could be because they had so many people trade in S22U and they have more inventory than they want.
The inflated tradein values have no relation to phone values. Most likely it's because they think people with s21 ultra are more likely to upgrade and switch to fi.

Numberbarn, ebay, Tello, Google voice. Can you rate in terms of low risk? which option do you suggest?
Which option did you select? I may have ?s if you went either the Tello route or the activated the Fi sim from best buy. Thanks a lot.

Yes. Also for Google Voice port to Google Fi you dont even have to unlock it by paying $3.

Even locked numbers will port to Fi.

Just make sure the voice-mail password is setup. That's your pin for porting.

Account number is the phone number

Thank you for the info …. just to verify, when you are referring to setting up a password in voice-mail, you are referring to a PIN?

Any good reason not to just get a $10 Google fi sim from Best buy, activate, purchase as an existing member then pause service for 90 days then reactivate the account when the s23 arrives? Seems like the easiest and cheapest way.

Shouldn't be any problem. I don't know that Tello does like Ting with the free service credits though. They are consistently among the cheapest of the MVNOs (they even reduced prices/increased data buckets on some of their plans last year while others were increasing their prices) so they don't run promos as often as the others.
I am using Tello as a temporary parking lot. Hope that is not an issue. Quick in and out of Tello.

I'm currently in a family plan with att, so I pay about $30 for unlimited.

If I get a ting simcard, port that number to Google Fi, get the $20 plan, and once I get the s23 ultra I put the Google Fi simcard, while also adding AT&T with an eSIM and use it as my primary for the 120 days, would this work? Is there any flaws in my thinking?

Thanks

I have a Metro phone line, which is due on the February 19th, I plan to use this number for FI S23 deal, now, I know the S23 will ship after my due date, but, my plan is I'm gonna port my number to Cricket to get a free phone and still keep the same number, now my question is, if I order the S23 with the porting number still in metro, and later port that number to Cricket, would that mess up my order for the FI S23?

You'll be fine. Nothing is in stone until you actually go to activate the phone. You can even change the port in number at that time.

Is google Fi really that bad that people don't consider it as a carrier in this deal?

Do I need to establish the number I'm porting in prior to placing the order with Google Fi?

Fi service works fine for me. But I already have plenty of free phone service with Freedompop, FreeUp, etc., don't want to pay for service I don't need.
