Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

I did this on the s22, started the order,
1.-choose the 5 lines per $100 did the 5 lines porting

2.-each member ordered the phones and the individual trade ins,

you can always chat or call during the process for assurance
The chat was my issue. Unless it was obvious that I missed it, I didn't see an area where I can open up a chat session and ask questions of the Google Fi support. Maybe cuz I'm not a member yet?

Anyway after you posted, I just went ahead and followed through the process. Adding family member Gmail accounts.

My wife will purchase her own ultra S23 using her Google account so she can have her own trade in value for her S21.

Although I did not pull the trigger yet by finalizing

One important note people.

For 120 days every night at 12 Fi will ping the SIM, if it is not inserted into the phone you bought you get 500$ charged back. You have to use the Fi SIM in the S23 you buy for entire duration of promo. Learned it the hard way.
Sounds to me like you were just showing off you know the term "ping". The system should not work as you imagined. First, you know there is something called timezone. Second, though ping is quick and cheap, ping millions of user (let's say fi is that popular) at the same epoch is still a silly design. Third, an easy alternative would be to just memorize the last IMEI in the registration, as you've also mentioned in later replies.
So, as a conclusion, don't show off something you're uncertain about, or at least make a note that you supposed or you guessed or you are 50% certain. To be credible is always a good manner to have. I know you want to share you thought, but you had saw how many confusions you have spread.
Try to delete or edit this post I would suggest.

You'll be fine. Nothing is in stone until you actually go to activate the phone. You can even change the port in number at that time.
So, can I just input a garbage number in the port prompt when ordering and do the port with a different one when I get the phone?

Fast Forward to almost 4 months from now.....

When the 4 months is up, cleared to cancel Google Fi (they royally suck) and the $600 is changed from "in Progress" to "Earned" .

So, if you have for example 5 days left you must remain before cancelling, can you start the process of using this phone for a new trade in with another provider? Not doing anything to mess with Google Fi, but will use device's IMEI with other provider as trade-in.

Since it takes a couple weeks for new phone from other provider to arrive, and then a couple weeks before you need to send in the old trade in, will this work, or will you risk losing the "In Progress" deal when you start the trade with other carrier?

Wish to trade in S22 from past Google Fi deal for T-Mobile S23 Ultra, as they give $800 trade in value for base model S22, and hope the above will work.
So it's interesting that you say Google Fi sucks.

Does that also mean T-Mobile sucks? Because they both use the same T-Mobile network.

It would help for me to know what you think sucks about Google Fi since I am considering leaving T-Mobile for Google Fi

My estimated delivery date jumped from 2/17 when I ordered a few days ago to 3/13. Jeez, a month delay that fast?

Idk, liking the s23 ultra price. I just don't put the sim card in and pay the bill for 4 months and the phone is unlocked, right?
The S23U comes unlocked from Google out of the box and can be used with your existing cell carrier. BUT you first need to activate the phone with the Fi SIM card to kick start the 120 days in good standing counter.

Then you have 2 choices:

1: Put the Fi SIM in a drawer and tape a note to it "do not use for 120 days" or "throw away after 120 days" you add 120 days from the date your activation or bill cycle date to remember when to cancel the line.

Very important: NEVER put this Fi SIM card in another phone for 120 days or you will void the promo and get charged an additional $600 for your S23U.

OR

2: Leave the Fi SIM in the phone, call your current cell carrier and update your existing line with the eSIM number from your new S23U and then go to SIM manager settings on the phone and make the eSIM number your primary line. Be sure to turn data OFF for your secondary SIM (Fi) so that you only use it for calls and texting and avoid paying extra data fees.

Put a calendar reminder alarm for 120 days later to cancel your Fi account or to port out etc.

Just ordered in phantom black, estimated shipping March 7-14.

Finally samsung got rid of that horrid curved screen hot garbage and have phones that can be used again.
If you ordered an Ultra, it has a curved screen. The other two are flat.

Yes, as long as it passes their pre check.

Just checked mine that I placed on launch day in the evening for the Cotton colorway. Mine shows deleivers 3/6 - 3/13. But if I place another one in cart to purchase, it shows delivers 2/24 - 2/27 Mad
Seems like the ETA even for earlier placed orders can change so maybe it's not quite FIFO. I just need my S23 Ultra to come in before late March for an international trip, so I hope it won't be delayed until then otherwise I will probably have to cancel.

I'm not the OP but fi's service is ok. Their customer service … not great.

Google Fi has incredibly poor customer service, even compared to other budget carriers like Mint. It's basically fully automated, and CS doesn't (can't?) really help...so if you come across a problem you're kind of on your own.

As for the cell service, it's good...but if you ever have a problem, good luck

No Google phone in the trade in list which makes sense, as they don't want to lose consumers (hw consumers) but however when pixel phones launch, they are very stingy with trade in offers at that time for pixel phones whereas they are liberal for other manufacturers.. so getting the short end of the stock at both ends
