Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

How do I qualify for the discount?
You must be a new Fi customer. A new Fi customer is someone who has never had Fi service or someone whose last day of Fi service took place more than 180 days before making a purchase with this promotion.

To qualify for the full discount, you need to:

Purchase the device or currently be in a group plan with the purchaser.

Activate the phone on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation.

You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. ******** Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. ******** Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.
Says nothing about GV (others have said there is specific exclusion for GV which is what I'm referring to) and the terms you linked are specific to S23+ not S23U (though I believe there is a similar page for 23U somewhere). From what I've read there has been similar language in the past where GV has worked.

Will let you know after I go through with GV port I guess. I'm very annoying if you couldn't tell and have no problem with working through issues.

So is Tello the cheapest plan to get data and voice? $6 might be cheap enough insurance that I get the promotion. I was planning to port 2 from xfinitymobile and need a brand new number for my son. I was going to just try GV port but don't want to risk not getting the promotion.

Earlier, I saw others mentioned Tello, so I ended up getting a cheap sim from them, but they charged a tax and a fee for a nano sim IIRC.

If I had to it all over again, I'd get a $5 sim from Hello (no taxes supposedly) or US Mobile

https://hellomobile.com/register/plans (scroll down to click "View More Plans" to see the $5 plan

https://www.usmobile.com

Another person suggested getting a Google Fi sim from Best Buy, Target, etc..., and activating it in a phone, downloading the Google Fi app, then purchasing the S23 on the app

IIRC, this method was intended to become a Google Fi member (and avoid the new member/customer requirement to port in a #).

So if anyone wants to take the approach of being a Google Fi customer first, and then getting the deal, that's worth considering imo.

Target currently sells a Fi sim for $7

Weird there was a part during ordering to see if your number qualified. I did this with a GV number and it said it qualified. Where was the CLEAR warning? I may have missed it.
there is none, people making stuff up to further support the data services clause in the promo terms.

I just ordered the S23U cream, so do I have to port a new number in or not? Not clear
Read the Original Post and pages 87-90 VERY CAREFULLY for options AS AN EXISTING CUSTOMER and AS A NEW CUSTOMER who will port in a new #.

Also see post # 1496 right above here.

The helpful answers are there!!!.

The S23 ultra was sold out. But I remember seeing it when I was going to get the S23 ultra earlier today.

So I got the link for the S23 plus since it was available.

Disclaimer was the same. I only know what I read. Wink

I am interested why many users don't just move their numbers over and use Fi for the 4 months instead of sticking the FI sim in a drawer. With taxes, for 35 GB of data, my bill is $55 a month. Paying for the lowest plan at $20 something a month for 4 months and also another phone service doesn't seem like a 'slick deal' Some reasons I can understand though- I would be interested to hear other reasons why.

1. Paranoid about losing number during port process
2. Stuck with bill credits with another provider.
3. You may use way more than 50GB a month.
4. T-mobile/Us Cellular service not good in your home area.
5. Customer service isn't great.

Some advantages of FI -

Great for international travel. Also the $65 plan includes YouTube Premium for a year. Also, for the new phone, the contract is only 4 months, so I can bounce afterwards.

Myself, moved over to FI about 5 months ago to get the s22+ for $399. I did get $625 for trading in a s21, so I haven't paid a bill yet since I moved over. I was going to likely move to another MVNO but now with this promotion, I might as well stick around and get another new phone and keep my s22+ for better trade ins later or just sell it.

TLDR - Fi isn't that bad as a provider and it might be 'slicker' just to move over for the 4 months.
Currently on a Visible promo ($15 per month); while that unlimited plan is supposed to be deprioritized, I'm consistently getting at least 50+Mbps (my area probably doesn't have many Verizon customers). Promo lasts all the way through this year. If I port that number out to FI, I'd lose out on the subsequent approximately 7 + months of service; and would be paying $40 more for the 4 months.

Instead : $25 per month for 4 months for a plan I won't use (and put in a drawer) is more attractive.

You didn't mention whether you traded in carrrier locked/unclocked one. I am just curious googlefi accepts carrier locked phone or not. I am planning to buy and trade in metrobyTmobile Iphone 11 64gb which comes carrier locked for 6months.
Google Fi accepts career locked phones. Make sure it is reset before sending.

What they don't accept is financed and blacklisted phones.

That disclaimer has been on multiple past Fi deals that people ported a GV number to no problem and were eligible. Is there proof, at least one person that can say they got disqualified from a Fi promotion for port in a GV number? All I see is people saying they've done it without issues and people that have never done it saying it can't be done....
I ported three lines from Google Voice(same gmail) over the course of last 9 months for three phones(s22 plus, s22 ultra and pixel 7). Worked for me.

No SD Card slot?

It looks like Note20 Ultra will be my last top of the line phone.

Well under those circumstances I guess I can retract my warning.

Maybe Google put that in the disclaimer about needing text voice and data, But they don't enforce it.
