Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Yeah but it keeps coming in and out of stock... Waiting for it to show and for me to order haha. But still need a number to port in either way.
I bought a number off ebay and rolled the dice. Don't know if it will work though.

If you add another phone (like S23 plus) to the cart, there's a screen where you can check if the number can be transferred to Fi or not.

I went to Best Buy to look at the S23 line, and the Ultra is just huge. Like, way uselessly big. You aren't going to use the pen, the only real upgrade from the plus is the 10x camera. (snip...)

I went with the Plus.
LOL,
Ultra: 6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 in
Plus: 6.21 x 3.00 x 0.30 in

So basically the only noticeable (possibly) difference in size is the HUGE Ultra is less than 1/4" taller. LOL! Wow. That sure is USELESS BIG compared to your much better choice of a TINY Plus.

The last Google Fi go around, I chose the S22 in part due to comments that said how HUGE the S22 Ultra is. "Expert " consensus was, the Plus wasn't worth the extra money over the basic S22. Either go HUGE or go basic.. Months later noticed a friend with a S22 ultra and checked it out. Instantly noticed how is was NOT huge at all, and easily fit into my shorts front pocket as if it wasn't even there. I deeply regretted getting the S22 instead of the larger S22U (S23U arrives today) Totally shocked that I fell for this "too large" crap. The saving grace at least was able to trade in the Google Fi S22 for $800 towards the T-Mobile S23 Ultra.

My credit hold also just disappeared. Not sure what to make of this. Got no cancellation notice.
Placed my order for an S23 on 2/2, pending charge disappeared on 2/9, reappears today 2/10. Most pending charges drop off after 5 to 7 days. Still shows delivery date of Feb 17-20.

Should be fine, but does the activation expire before you receive the phone?

Probably won't be able to get it in 14 days, if you haven't ordered it yet. Good luck.

You should have waited and bought the number when you get the shipping notice of the phone. There's no way you're getting a phone in time to use that number. I was able to get an order in on Feb 6th and have a ship date between Mar 8 -15.

... the only real upgrade from the plus is the 10x camera. Admittedly, that's neat, but you can crop 8k video on the plus with the 3x zoom for essentially a 6x zoom on that. Overall it's not worth the daily bulk of the Ultra for the rare times you need a 10x camera. That's literally the only major feature that matters to most (200MP cam is actually not good).

I went with the Plus.
That 10x optical zoom comes in real handy if you have little ones in school and you want the best close-up without digital artifacts. Or sporting events. Or any event where 10X optical zoom is needed in 3x optical zoom just doesn't cut it.

That 10x optical zoom comes in real handy at nude beaches (or so I've been told).

I also bought the boost number from ebay in the 'not risky way' Editor's notes above in order to order the phone. Might be a good idea to mention the 15 day limit on the number up there.

Does this number last after it is activated on fi? Can I port it out to GV after a while and know I have a valid cell number for the future?

It is notoriously tough to get account number and pin from lyca to port out. Will need multiple tries calling csr and eventually you will get a good csr. One sob told me I called lyca mobile belgium. Lol

Or when you're at the Super Bowl, sitting way up there in the nose-bleed section and want a good picture of a touchdown. Big Grin
