Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Koreans got a bucket load of free stuff as well!!
But they don't get as good a deal as we get with Fi. According to this article: https://www.sammobile.com/news/ga...ce-offers/ the trade-in value for Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Note 10, or Galaxy Note 20 series smartphone is only 150,000 KRW (Korean Won) which is 12% or less the price of a S23-series phone. Plus, they don't get the big discount that Fi gives (for staying 120 days which can cost as little as around $100).

So, I have time to make changes, but I'm not 100% clear. How do I get a new number for $5 that I can use instead of my Google Voice number?
Many have suggested the $5 Hello mobile plan or $6 Tello plan. I went with $5 Hello with sim, as they also give you an additional free month, making it 2 free months so you have plenty of time in case your phone shipment is delayed.

Can you buy more than 1 and just activate it on the same line?
No. One discount per Google account.

For those receiving their phones in February, being that February has 28 days, if you activate fi/phone in February, the 120 days won't end before your 5th month begins. Does Fi give back partial month credit for mid-month cancellation?

Yes.

BUT, the problem is that time is fast running out on this existing customer path.
This deal is active ONLY until 2/16 and tomorrow is 2/14.
IF you buy a Google Fi Sim early tomorrow morning and activate it as a new customer immediately, you MAY become an existing customer on Thursday 2/16 and be able to place an order as an existing customer.
It's a BIG IF but it may be worth trying.

Offer is valid until February 16, 2023 at 11:59PM PT or while supplies last.

Good Luck!
How do you know when you become an existing customer? I've seen others say you need to wait 48-hours to be fully activated, but I've already received an email from Fi stating that my account is now activated, and I have been able to make and receive calls.

If only there were some sort of engine to search this on...a search engine, if you will, that could magically answer basic questions like that instead of clogging up a thread with useless queries.

If only.
went that route. links to reddit threads that no one really posts in anymore. maybe i missed something though, will check again. thanks

Try plugging your order number into the Fedex system (put it in the "reference number" section for advanced tracking, it's not a tracking number).

My Google order # says Mar 1-8 but the Fedex page says it's been received and is "pending".

It takes some time for the website to update and show your plan info , promotion status.. etc
Your are activated once you activated the sim (can make phone call and data)

Disclaimer: The information below is based on my experience with several Fi accounts that I've had since April last year. YMMV.

For a new Fi customer, the 1st billing period typically starts 2 days after activation of your service (i.e. you get 2 free days). Each subsequent billing period starts on the same DAY OF THE MONTH. For example: if you activate your S23 on 2/18, the 1st billing period starts on Feb 20, then the subsequent ones on Mar 20, Apr 20, May 20, June 20.

As such, if you activate your phone on Feb 18, you can cancel on June 19 (the 121st day) and avoid the 5th bill. If for some reason you can't cancel until a few days after that, you will get a partial refund (if your 5th bill was paid with your credit card, not Fi credit) after 1-2 billing cycles.

Use this Date Calculator: https://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html , input your activation date, add 121 days, and the result is the day that you can cancel your Fi service without affecting your promotion.
