Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

I ordered a base green 256GB S23 on 2/2. Est delivery date has stayed unchanged at Feb 22-23 for over a week. Had a pending charge of $327.xx on 2/2 which dropped off on 2/9. This afternoon 2/19 got a new pending charge of $327.xx. Maybe it will get shipped soon.

Quick data point on my experience with eSim and promo:

1. Received s23 and activated. Initial port attempt of didn't go through, but it was a Fi issue which was resolved a few hours after contacting them via chat - note that I went the safe route and purchased a number - NOT a GV #. Few extra bucks purchasing the number from eBay, but really happy with that transaction as it was fast and received all the required info fast with great communication from seller I used. Not advocating for a specific path or seller here; just sharing my experience.
2. I will note that I received a confirmation email that service was activated even before the port in issue was resolved.
3. On the same day I also activated service with my current provider using the eSim. I made sure that I could make a call with the phone using Fi before going through this process.
4. I am now using the eSim with the main physical sim (Fi) toggled off.
5. All checkmarks received (activation, port in) and both promotion trackers are moving on day 2 (Phone discount and $20 Fi credit).
6. Interesting side note in that the device is indeed fully unlocked, but it does have specific Fi sku that is the same as the unlocked model but ends in "GFI". In fact, my Samsung account shows the device with the regular model number and then "(Google Fi)". This information might be common knowledge, but I found it interesting because there was no Fi or Google related bloatware preinstalled. In fact, you have to go to the Playstore and download the Fi app.

Plan on just using the phone as is and just leaving the Fi sim on the device because I'm paying for it for at least 4 months so why not just in case. I have toggled the sim off so as to not consume any data in the meantime.

The GFI probably indicates that it's a Fi model with the Fi SIM preinstalled by Samsung.

If you're doing a Fi promo, log into your Fi account using a computer, click on Billing-->Fi Savings-->In progress. There's a checklist of items required to be completed to earn the promo discount. After activating your Fi phone, wait about 24 hrs and check to see if the countdown (of how many more days you have to stay with Fi) has started. When your promo is moved from the In Progress column to the Earned column, you've fulfilled the requirements and can safely cancel your Fi service. See attachments.

I traded in an iPhone11 for $305 on that promo. $299.99 (the cost of the S22 before tax) was refunded to my credit card. The excess $5.01 went to my Fi credit.

I used GV as the port in number when I made the purchase on 2/1. My credit card got charged today and the delivers date keeps on 21-22. I do bought a hello Sim in case GV is not working for port in.
