Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

What are you guys doing for a screen protector? We got the Milomdoi ones from Amazon due to the rating today and tried them on the one phone we've received. It's now pretty obvious that may of these reviews are probably fake. This thing is terrible. The finger print sensor also doesn't work at all with it installed, despite it claiming that it does. These are going back to Amazon, but I'm not sure what else to try.

I've read good things about Dome Whitestone protectors, but then I've also read a ton of negative reviews from people who say they have used them on previous phones, but that this one is pretty bad.

So I am left with no idea what to go with. With our other two phones on the way I want to find something. I'd like something where the finger print scanner will still work, but I don't really want the cut out in the screen protector as I don't want to look at that every time I'm watching something on there. I'm really disliking these finger print readers in the screen. This works better than my Pixel, but they just seem like a terrible idea hat works poorly in general.

This person seems to take it personally if others don't listen to them and follow what they did.

Seems so arrogant, obstinate, and closed minded to dismis others who dont want to risk it.

Imagine someone saying they got away with not wearing a seat belt or helmet, or didn't buy car/home/fire/earthquake/tornado insurance, and therefore others are foolish to do so.

Such hubris.
Quote from HunterOne :
There is an old saying:
"There is always a first time for everything".

Those people who posted warnings of failure with no proof, that you and several others have a beef with, just didn't want to be amongst the first to offer that "proof of failure", and be out of the $600 or $500, and be the sacrificial lambs!

Especially when the deal's T&C clearly state those warnings and there were other posts here quoting Google Fi CS chats stating that GV #s did not qualify.

Most people here did not have the past experience you have with Google Fi not following thru with its T&C, and just wanted to play this deal safe, considering the $$$$ to lose and the pennies to gain.

Most likely, Google Fi will pay the cash credit after the 120 days regardless if one used a GV # or a NumbersBarn # to port in, BUT strictly speaking Google Fi has a proper and legal reason to take action according to its T&C to deny the cash credit to those port ins before they qualify as a paid credit.

Another thought that applies here:
"Penny wise and pound foolish".

Google Fi is aware of people subscribing and then cancelling out on these deals, and that's why the cancel period was increased from 30 days to 120 days and 4 months from now when they see a couple of hundred thousand people cancelling, that period will probably increase to 180 or 360 days or more for the next "deal".

The major cell providers learned this lesson and increased their retain periods.
For instance, Verizon went from 6 months to a year and now 3 years before a customer is not liable to being charged for any up front gift card rebates.
Similarly with T-Mobile.

See this Verizon thread started a couple of years ago that for some strange reason is still under Hot Deals even though it's now dead:

On this topic about Google voice, he has his opinions. why blame him for that.

At the end of the day, each person supposed to do his/her DD and make their own decision (to use Google voice or Hello mobile or Numberbarn or Ebay or something else).

Hey folks. I see a lot of recent posts debating the validity of using a GV number for the port-in. I do not want to use GV, so is there a reliable and confirmed carrier to use for getting a number and porting it in?

I saw some posts mentioning Boost and Tello. Are they the reliable routes and is it ok to get the cheapest plan with them (I see a $15/mo plan with Boost and a 100min/500mb plan with Tello for $6)?

Very stupid question, but after activating the phone on Google FI, did anyone remove the Fi sim and perform a factor reset, and start using some other sim after the factor reset?

Being helpful is lovely and appreciated.

Being argumentative, condescending, patronizing, and dismissive might not be well received by all.

I personally have said that GV #s probably will work, but I personally don't mind 5 or 6 bucks to get some peace of mind.

Not sure why this person gets so butt-hurt if others don't want to use GV #s to port in.

If anybody had success in previous Fi deals, then congrats.

Some people also said iphone 11 trade in value for past deals were $300+...but Fi lowered TIV for many phones.

Others on SD and reddit have complained about Fi support and customer service.

Many of us are trying Fi for the first time, so maybe we have reason to be cautious and careful.

So sure, this person has been helpful with various other issues / questions -- but God knows why they are so insistent on being "right" and needs vindication from others and repentance from others who didn't obey them.

Look at what they said previously and tell me they aren't obsessed?

"If you and the other posters who have doubts about using GV for this promo want to wait 120 days before admitting that you're wrong, I can wait. Make sure to come back here after 120 days and see if there are any posts from people who got their promo disqualified for using GV to port in."

"I don't have problems with people not wanting to use GV number for porting in for fear of losing their promo. I do have problems with people giving all kinds of warnings against using GV number for porting in without providing ONE proof of a failure. "

"Anyway, I'm breaking my promise not to discuss this topic any more. So, this is the end of this conversation"

"Did you see the 3-4 posts in the last few days from people who successfully ported in from GV and got their checkmark for "Port in a number to Fi" ? Not ONE single report of failure."

That's what most posters here are doing, but a factory reset is not necessary.
Just remove the Sim and uninstall the Google Fi app.

Just do not insert the Google Fi Sim in any other device, just store it.

After transferring and activating the new phone, how to transfer all the apps installed on old phone to new phone? I think Samsung cloud lets you do that by entering the same Gmail account of your old phone.

But I created a new Gmail account for Google Fi while my old phone is tied to a different Gmail account.

Now what to do?

Remove the Fi SIM and put it away. Factory reset the device and then setup as a brand new device using the other email and transfer all the info using smart switch. This is what I will do when I get my new device.

If you don't stay with Fi and use the phone with another provider, just go to the settings/Accounts and Backup/Manage Accounts and delete the new Google account/new Gmail and enter the old Google account.
Then you can sync.

I'm rolling without a screen protector, just a case with a raised lip to hopefully protect the screen. Did you re-register your fingerprints with the screen protector on and that "enhanced screen sensitivity" option turned on? I heard a lot of issues with the fingerprints not working is that people didn't register their fingerprints AFTER the screen protector is installed.

What's the reason on using different gmail accounts? Can we not use the same gmail we have our android stuff backed up on as the one we ordered from google fi? Will this break something if we reset the device and use the same gmail we always used even though it was the one that ordered the phone that we will use with our other provider now?

Does anyone with a S23U Cream order have any good news to share? Lol. So far it seems all the Cream orders here have been either delayed or no update. For me, my 2/5 order is still March 3-7 with no update in over a week.

From reading the thread here, some wanted to use new Google/Gmail account as the old one would not qualify them for this deal for some reason.
