Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

That's what most posters here are doing, but a factory reset is not necessary.
Just remove the Sim and uninstall the Google Fi app.

Just do not insert the Google Fi Sim in any other device, just store it.
Yeah I saw that, but I have this weird obsession with having a clean setup during the first use. Samsung runs some optimization stuff based on the first inserted sim card carrier. So I like to factory reset when I change carriers.

If you don't stay with Fi and use the phone with another provider, just go to the settings/Accounts and Backup/Manage Accounts and delete the new Google account/new Gmail and enter the old Google account.
Then you can sync.
I want to stay with Fi for at least 120 days to be on safe side before removing the Fi Sim from the Fi phone. At least need to transfer Whatsapp messages to the new phone as they will be transferring same number. My existing (old) phone is also Samsung (Note 10)

Does anyone with a S23U Cream order have any good news to share? Lol. So far it seems all the Cream orders here have been either delayed or no update. For me, my 2/5 order is still March 3-7 with no update in over a week.
Same here. Now I regret ordering cream color. Looks like they haven't even got their first batch of cream phones to ship it out.

After transferring and activating the new phone, how to transfer all the apps installed on old phone to new phone? I think Samsung cloud lets you do that by entering the same Gmail account of your old phone.

But I created a new Gmail account for Google Fi while my old phone is tied to a different Gmail account.

Now what to do?
You can use the smart switch app from Samsung. I always set it up as new to start afresh and transfer app data using app specific backup methods like whatsapp backup, sms restore for SMS/call history etc.

Do I need to use the same Samsung cloud account to use this app? I have created a different Gmail for the new Fi phone than the Gmail account signed up on Google and Samsung accounts on my current phone.

I guess when setting up Whatsapp on new Fi phone, if I enter my phone number, it'll auto transfer all my messages/profiles (silly me!)

It won't if you don't have automatic back up set up properly. I do a force backup when I'm ready and then install Whatsapp in the new phone and restore.

The smart switch as I understand is a device to device transfer. You can do it over a cable or using WiFi. I don't think you need any cloud/account setup for that. https://www.samsung.com/us/suppor...%20to%20go.

Black S23U ordered on 2/4 shipped out today to WA with a 2/24-2/27 arrival date via UPS. IMEI number shows up in my Fi account page as a S23U
Where could you see this IMEI number?

Once you login at fi.google.com and click on manage plan you should see the list of devices in the bottom. Clicking on them will show the IMEI

In general, Android apps are pretty wonky at backups. Some use google APIs which allows them to be backed up in a standard when you create a device backup in Google one. Some use their own mechanism like Whatsapp. Some do not have any support for backup at all. A smart switch solutions which basically copies whole app folder data from one phone to other is the most reliable to get it all but then it would also include a lot of crud which might slow the new phone down. That's why I prefer setting it up as new and do the backup/restore app by app as needed.

I was charged $50 instead of $20. I think it is because of the unlimited plan instead of the flexible plan. Did it happen to anyone else too?

also if I switch now, I think it applies from next month onwards only. Will this switch impact the promotion in any way?

Check it using imei.info
I haven't received my phone yet but out of curiosity, I looked up my IMEI number on your site. How come this website (www.imei.info) says my S23 Ultra is a 256GB model with 8GB of RAM instead of the advertised 512GB pre-sale model? Maybe this website isn't very accurate?

Yeah, I saw the same for mine (512/12) as well.. With the device being so new, I don't believe all the info is accurate yet.
