You can buy Japan made Seiko on AliExpress? Can you share?
Agree Aliexpress has some great watches, although none with anywhere near the brand pedigree of Seiko.

2 serious questions though, since you see a lot of these in your business:

1) Are Aliexpress watches in frequent need of repair then?
2) Very surprised anyone would bring a $100 watch to a watch maker for repair (unless it has tremendous sentimental value or you have very good rates). If the later, do you accept repair orders by mail? I have a few vintage watches I'd love to be worked on but always assumed it would be too expensive.
In the past I would say the same..but, I have seen some stuff in person that I think are very competitive. This for example.

Black Ceramic Bezel 41mm Steeldive 30ATM Water Resistant NH35 Automatic Mens Dive Watch Reloj

My job is watch repair. I've got a local friend is always busy not stuff like this, so I get to see different stuff from AliExpress regularly. I'm constantly impressed.

Please don't listen to these Aliexpress "ads" trying to peddle their cheap merch here.

You are comparing an $80+ no name watch from Aliexpress to $100ish watch from Seiko? You have to be kidding me. You would want to risk no name quality, overseas shipping, customs seizing, expensive returns to save $20ish????? Maybe if the aliexpress watch was like $30, maybe.

For $80 if that is what you have to spend, just get an Invicta Pro diver automatic. It is more than fine (I have one that I use for travelling to foreign countries that I don't want to risk bringing my real submariner).

I've dealt with AliExpress and these sort of watches many times, as I am in the watch repair business. There are trade-offs, but I've never had an issue and the watches are solid pieces and easily worth a look depending on what you want to get for your money.

I wear a Seiko 5 (the SNGZ13 that was FP a few days ago, not this one) every day. These $100 ones are great to have on hand as nice gifts for family members' milestone birthdays, graduations, etc.

No manual winding for 7s26 movement. Otherwise a great little mechanical watch

Here is my two cents.
There is no reason for a 100$ generic automatic watch to exist. Anything decent starts are 500$ plus, and they sit on shelve collecting dust. For a dailly driver, a nice quality quartz like the prx. A lot less hassle than a cheap automatic. As for aliexpress, well, watches nowdays are more jewelry than tools, and I definitely don't wan t to be the guy who buys jewelry from aliexpress

I always get curious about watches but agree with you that they are basically for fashion. Anyone who wants a "tool" buys an Apple Watch. I can't imagine wearing anything else due to functionally.

The only watch I would buy outside of Apple Watch is the Rolex "Pepsi" gmt master but only for looks 😬

Personally had bad experience with Jomashop. Bought an SNKL23 that was claimed to be the j1 "Made in Japan" version, but turned out to be the k1 made in Malaysia and they refused to refund or replace it, claiming that it was the correct/same one. This clearly was not true because 2 years later, right outside the warranty period, the mechanism broke and the watch died on me. Made in Japan models are historically more reliable, so I would check to make sure you're receiving the correct version. Just sharing my experience.
They did that to me once when I bought some cologne. They sent the wrong one and insisted it was correct. I sent them the copy of the receipt they had sent me that included a color image of the product with an image of what they had sent me, no avail. They shorted me a charge for the return shipping label on the refund but I just did a chargeback on that and they never responded.

It's one of those companies where if their selling process works out for you in full auto mode, you're fine and get a good or great deal. If you have to deal with their customer service for any reason, you're in for grief. I won't speculate as to why, but they're all miserable people and act accordingly. Give them just one chance then call the cc company.

That would only apply to apple seeds though.

I have a dumb question. They say mechanical watches will need service no matter what after 10 years because things will dry up and will need to be replenished. Is this still true even if you keep the watch in a zip lock bag hidden in the freezer? Hidden so that no one will take it without permission.

Not just dry out, the parts will need to changed as well. But some good mechanical watches run for 50 years without service.
