Last week I actually redeemed and old cd keys membership purchased, $30 for 12 months. I found it cleaning my emails dated April 2021 and it still worked. No one probably cares but I just wanted to share.

Same here, PlayStation will only offer discounts if you are expired. I just finished Final Fantasy VII remastered this morning, and for now will just jump back to games I have purchased at discounted rates on xbox until a better deal pops up for PlayStation essential. The more people that buy in at $47 will only encourage this same pricing. I would rather buy direct from Sony if they do a similar discount or better.

it seems like it only allows me to extend my ps plus premium membership for 6 months. I guess I have to let it cancel and then redeem it for essential. Does anyone know a workaround so I can redeem it now?

It will extend it but not for 1 year. When I went to redeem this code, for example, it only gave me the option of extending my premium membership for 6 months. For extra it would probably be something like 9 months.

The $35/yr days are gone. Sony wants $60, so $47 isn't so bad. It's under $4 a month, and you have to have it anyway if you want online multiplayer. Sony has always been that way.
That's what I was wondering. Thanks for answering. Probably end up getting this as last year we forgot and Sony subscription automatically renewed at full price. Ouch!

Oh for sure you have to disable auto renew or you get surprises like that. Everyone has done it at some point and groaned when you see the full price charge for something on the card statement.
