Epic Games has The Sims 4 (PC Digital Download) for Free.
Thanks community member Silver71 for sharing this deal
About this Game:
Play with life and discover the possibilities. Unleash your imagination and create a world of Sims that's wholly unique. Explore and customize every detail from Sims to homes–and much more.
They go on sale every 4-6 weeks, typically the week of major holidays. There are 4 types of DLC for Sims 4 - expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs, and kits.
Expansion packs are usually $20 (50% off) when on sale. Expansion packs add a lot of content including new worlds to build in, new items to build with, new clothing, and new game play. One of the best expansion packs is Seasons because it adds holidays and weather to the base game.
Game packs are usually $14 (30% off) when on sale. Game packs are much smaller than expansion packs and don't include new worlds but do include new types of game play. One example of a game pack is Dream Home Decorator. It adds a new interior designer career as well as a ton of build items.
Stuff packs are usually $7 (30% off) when on sale. Stuff packs are smaller still than game packs. They're usually just a large themed collection of build items or clothing and add no game play.
Kits rarely or never go on sale. Kits are small themed collections of build items or clothing. Most of the kits don't add gameplay but there is one called Bust the Dust that adds a dirt/dust system to the game and you have to vacuum regularly if you want the house to stay clean.
Always free
Sims 4 became free back in October

Thanks OP. Added to my library of Epic free games. This game is fun on it's own. Because, you know, the "Bathroom Clutter Kit" and "Pastel Pop Kit" will add so much to the game as an Add-On.
I'm sure the commenter meant it's always free now, as in this isn't a "deal". It's good for those who are unaware it changed to free last year.
Yeah, I didn't know it was free, so a worthy deal post imo (regardless of that fact). Unsure why your post here literally just clarifying what they probably meant got only 3 thumbs downs other then *anybody* 👀 is allowed on the internet 😂. +Rep
*Legal disclaimer, the term anybody does not have anything related to the judgement of intelligence of the population 👀

When is the best time to buy expansions? Do they ever go on sale?

Its probably free because the base game is about as barebones as it gets. They want you to buy the expansions
It's free because nobody is buying the 9 year old base game any more and this allows them to sucker people into buying expansion packs. Plus they want to distract people from Paralives as it gets closer to release.
It's news now because Epic didn't have SIMS available in it's store until now, it was just EA and Steam, and Epic is hoping to sucker people to buy from their store so they can make a little extra.
I started posting this early yesterday morning, then realized it's been free for a while. Figured I'd have been chewed up for posting, so I deleted it. 🙃
No. They just realized that they make a ton of money off DLC and that they would make more money if they made the base game free. There are no loot boxes for now
This is one of the most evil games ever made. Not *evil laugh* and laser beam and henchmen evil, but more like Nestle stealing water and poisoning kids while wearing business suit evil. Or pharma increasing prices on drugs simply to increase profits evil.
This is digital, concentrated escapist crack and distopyia fuel. Time to go play it again...

I honestly feel that pirating DLC for the Sims games is morally acceptable. They also make it really easy.

They just had a big sale a couple months ago. Ideally you want to get them when they are near 50% off or through a CD key.

Back in my day Sims was like $40 in a box at the pc store. These days they giveaway games like candy it's crazy. Though they're digital and new releases cost just as much as hard copies.
The difference this time around (I think) is that they have so many different packs and Expansions to buy that they are hoping to sucker more people in to purchase those. I don't think they had as many in previous gens. I do believe they are already developing Sims 5 so it could be they are trying to maximize profits on Sims 4 before 5 drops in a couple years.
Just FYI for folks there is a very lively and active community making adult content mods for this game as well, if you are into that sort of thing. Not going to link since I'm not 100% familiar with Slickdeals rules on that sort of thing, but just google Loverslab and Sims 4. Gives your Sim romances that extra realistic touch!

The base game has tons of playability. The expansions can add a lot but that doesn't make the base game barebones.
