100amp is good for light sheet metal. But stick welding on light sheet metal is a real challenge. I wouldn't try that. And I've been welding over 60 years. Currently own three oy-acetylene rigs, two MIGs, three sticks.
I don't have this model but a much more fully featured YesWelder model and it's a quality welder. That said, I bought it during a "limited-time" Black Friday sale two years ago that as far as I can tell has been running perpetually ever since; only the holiday or other occasion has changed. This is most likely a paid placement like many so-called deals here, so nothing to panic-buy your way into. It'll almost certainly be this same price tomorrow and next week and on the 4th of July and on Frodo's birthday and....
This is the regular everyday price, just search amazon/ebay.
Got one a while back, its small, not much bigger than a loaf of bread but it welds.

A good starting point I guess but the reviewer wasn't impressed.

I'm sure it's a nice unit with uses well beyond occasional spot welding, but a bit too pricey and large for my present needs. Thanks though.

Quote from SpinControl :
Look on YouTube for videos on how to solder or make lithium power packs. Then use their links to a welder .

Linus tech tips did one, but he ruined all his cells, so I'd probably look elsewhere.

I like My Playhouse.

also pick up a bench charger like he has. you can dial in the voltage and amps you want to charge at.
I've come across a bunch of $50-$60 spot welders that have their own LiPo/LiOn batteries, but that seems kind of silly if you already have lots of power sources, including power banks, and just need the occasional spot weld. That's why I asked. And all these tech channels seem as much about entertainment as usefulness, so grain of salt.

It's fine, I've been using the same for about 5 years. It's not a $200 helmet, but it gets the job done. Make sure yours works when you bring it home, I've had one that was DOA.

I have the 205 Amp 110/220V model of this welder and use it often.
Most of my usage is farm equipment, I have repaired a trailer with 1/4 inch angle and heavy sheet metal. I have added stands to some of my three point attachments and welded a tube jack to my zero turn mower.

I find it starts well and lays a solid bead with the limitation being my skill.
I have an also have an old lincoln stick welder, a multi-process plasma cutter that can stick weld, a titanium flux code welder. I never use the other two stick welders since getting this and returned a titanium stick welder after using the one I have.

The size/weight of these inverter welders is very convenient, easy to grab and throw in the car or truck to take to friends.

I have looked at my notes and the highest power I use on different sticks is 107 amps for a 3/32 7018. I find the 110V adequate for the 1/4 material as well. If I didn't already have the 205 I would get this one.

I would also second the recommendation for the yeswelder true color helmet. I was not happy with my harbor freight helmet(s) compared to the true color auto darkening.

Weld outside with good ventilation, watch some youtubes, practice laying a bead. If it sounds like bacon frying that is good, if it smells like bacon frying you are on fire.....

A couple more notes:
This is the helmet I "splurged" on.
Happy with the purchase

Yes Welder true color large viewing window

I have used 6011, 6013, and 7018 sticks but tend to use 6013 for most things.

I use a flux core for thinner metal.

What do you recommend for car-gauge sheet metal? (Rust repairs, etc)

Good info. Would a normal 110v 20a electric outlet support the 107 amps you were welding at? I showed my buddy this and he said you would need to use a 220 line to get any power out of this as it would be too much draw for a normal 20a plug that you would have in the garage

I am looking for an affordable welder. I don't mind getting Ar or CO2 tanks to avoid having the slag build up... I also saw that there are welders that generate the gas so no gas supply is necessary.
Thanks for the suggestions. Want to get the right one and only cry once but don't want to break the bank either.

According to one of the picture on Amazon, you can take it to the beach to weld.
I thought it was a therapy welder pet being taken to the beach.

Different kind of welding but can anyone recommend an inexpensive but decent spot welder, for occasional use connecting LiOn cells with nickel strips, that maybe take advantage of smart circuitry akin to how the TS100 and Pinecil work and can work off of 45W or 65W USB-C PD power supplies and power banks?
This brand is highly-regarded by DIY battery-pack makers.

https://malectrics.eu/product-cat...r-bundles/

I was turned on to this brand by some guys living in the EU and Middle East who build/rebuild battery packs for their electric bikes--this was long before the electric bike craze hit the USA.

Back then you could buy the spot welder as a DIY kit and assemble it yourself. Now they just sell it assembled.

They have a version intended to be powered by a car battery and a version intended to be powered by a Li-Ion battery pack.

Im a big fan of Chinese welders. I often frequent the big red and big blue forums to really immerse myself in the hatred and toxicity. Some call me a masochist. Own a Primeweld and AHP tig; used them for a couple bike builds. Have used Yeswelder Mig and my auto darkening yeswelder helmet has never failed, even after throwing it in a fit of rage (aluminum problems yakno).

Lol 100amp good for light sheet metal ?????? 60 years of welding experience ????? Your skills are well above average. Mere mortals like us, especially beginners looking at a $68 welder have near zero chances of welding light sheet metal at 100amps with a stick welder and not blow through it so it looks like Swiss cheese. Something like a wire feed with flux core might be a better choice for light sheet metal for the rest of us that don't have 60 years of welding experience.

Can I fix a gas grill frame with this?

Most likely yes. If the metal is very thin it can get tricky because it can melt. Also make sure that you place your clamp on a connected metal part that is not painted, otherwise it may not conduct. I like those stick welder, cheap and fun. I always look for an excuse to weld Wink

Thanks. A bit over my budget but it might prove useful as a benchmark against which to judge other units and kits. I'm really looking to spend no more than $30-$40 for the few times I might want to spot weld. I wonder if it's possible and safe to use a soldering iron if I'm very careful, although I understand that it can damage the LiOn cell and possibly even ignite it.

Alternately, I might just try and fashion a spring-loaded cell holder and make it really simple--and safe.
