The $5 Monthly Pro rewards cannot be applied to digital gift cards any more online.
It still works in store though when buying a physical gift card.

I just looked up the FAQ and it says that the reward cannot be used on gift cards. Like I said, I've been using it for gift cards since April 2022, so this must be a recent change.
"What can I use my $5 Monthly Reward on?
The coupon cannot be used on GameStop gift cards, 3rd party gift cards, select downloadable content like in-game credits, a Pro membership, or reservations. The discount will automatically apply to the most expensive eligible item in your order."
