This Post Reminds me that I need to get luggage that doesn't look like every other bag so somebody doesn't accidently take it from the baggage claim.

Picked this up, thank you! I read in a previous thread that the larger bag may be considered "oversized" by many airlines, and hence charged a surcharge. Has anyone had real world experience here? We need to replace our big check-in bag, but wouldn't want to suck up extra fees.

I never had such issue. Anything looks reasonable from outside is okay.
On the weight side most airlines are fine with additional 4-5lbs for international flights. I have never been charged for it.
