Not sure how to clarify it any more. As Oregon14 said, do NOT move SIM cards.

Step One: Activate the TCL and click "I want to keep my number." After you finish the all the steps, the TCL will have your current number and service time added to the service that came with the TCL.
Step Two: On a different day, go into your Tracfone account. You will see your current device now listed as inactive. Click activate and "I want to keep my number" and that will move everything back from the TCL to your current device.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. If you move the service by activating with a transfer, that is totally legitimate and not risky. The only potential risky behavior is just taking the SIM from this phone and just sticking it in another device.

It's on the Att whitelist under Alcatel A3 A509DL.

I think I know the answer but is the it 1500 minutes/text/data supposed to last you an entire year or is that a monthly allowance? It just seems like an extremely low amount, right? Like 5MB/day.
It's not a daily plan, it's for the year - with carryover - to use as you need, then buy more. Many people are mostly on wifi & don't need unlimited plans.
Please don't buy this expecting a decent phone, its even a poor entry level phone - read reviews.

I did this recently. When u are activating, it asks if u want to keep ur number. Choose yes & it will activate this new phone/SIM w ur number. Then, i put the sim back in my good phone. I had to text APN to 611611 to get data working again, but it still works fine. On the website under my account it lists the device as unknown instead of having the correct device w a pic. It's been over 1 month now. Also, i get 5G, even though the crap phone i got definitely wasn't 5G capable.
I did this for about 3 new phones. Just swapped the sim to the old one. Never had a problem. Maybe some get in trouble switching to a non tracfone?

It works until it doesn't.
Locked TF will not unlock without using original sim. There have been several reports of people not having active lines when they expected & it's extremely frustrating trying to get reinstated.
It's better to do it the right way than being cut off. Support will confirm sim needs to be registered with IMEI of phone.

BTW if you just want cheap service Tracfone store on eBay still has 2 Orbic flip phones with year of service on each for $50.

It is one year, and a TOTAL of 1500 min, 1500 texts, and 1.5 GB data. This is enough for some people, such as my kid at college who uses free google voice calling and texting most of the time.

But it's really just enough to get most people started. Tracfone separates out time left on the current plan, minutes left, texts left, and data left. There are a bunch of options to add to any or all of these, or you can go to an unlimited plan, either by the month, or for a year. Anything you buy is added to the existing amounts.

So... when you get low on the initial amount, go to your tracfone account (website or app) and add to it. OR buy a new tracfone phone with an initial offer, like this one.

Be warned though that tracfone customer service is far and away the absolute worst I have ever experienced. Expect a simply issue to take 30 to 90 minutes on the phone with little hope of a resolution. It is like they are trained to ask endless questions without any ability to help or fix anything at all. About 1 in 4 times they can do a simple fix, but that's about it.

I have 2 Orbic TF flip phones from the 2 for $30 HSN deal. I took the sim card from 1 of the Orbic phones and put it it an unlocked Moto G6 smart phone and it works fine. $15 for 1200 minutes, 1200 text, and 1200 MB for 1 year is a great deal. The Moto G6 is better for texting and apps and internet.
I also have a TCL flip TF phone that I was able to unlock and it works fine with a TMO sim card.
Thanks a lot !
I have the same 2 flip Orbic phones (both activated and working fine as of now)!
Are you saying I can just take out the sim card from these and stick it in an unlocked smartphone and start using it without any issues? Or do I need to do something extra after putting the SIM in the new smartphone?

You will need to get BYOP TF sim & activate the new unlocked phone. Choose keep current number when you activate & service/number will move from flip to smartphone.
Also did it with mine - the flips are junk. It's not recommended to swap sim as IMEI will not get registered correctly & can affect future service.

Even if your Tracfone has WiFi calling, it still counts toward minutes on the phone. Data is a different story.
Many Tracfones have poor reviews. I have had Tracfone for several years, and usually buy a new phone every year. And I have had good luck with most of the phones I have had. I've had trouble once or twice, but always gotten it straightened out. I currently have the Samsung A51, and the only trouble I have had with it, is that the battery seems to drain faster than it used to.

How do you get around these "new customer" or how long is consider "new"? Use sibling, children, spouse name?
The last time I bought from HSN was November 2022, and I created a new account yesterday for this deal. I used a different email, tweaked my first name a little (for example, Jeanne instead of Jean) and used a different payment method. The coupon worked fine. My order went from processing last night to the packaging stage today, so it seems to have gone through okay.

Agreed pretty abrupt drop - went back to the original 7,000 rewards for about a month then down to 500 (was 10,000 for a little over 4 months).
Not much point now.

You get it all at once.
How you use it is up to you.
I tend to run out of data before the 365 days is up, so I pay $10 for 1GB of data every few months.

HSN sent me a $10 coupon two hours ago, so I ordered the phone for the minutes. Same deal but not a new customer.

Step #2. It's crazy that Tracfone just moves everything back to the non-TCL phone just by me saying I want to activate the now inactive original phone.
What if there is another smartphone on the account that is active?
Will Tracfone ask which phone gets the minutes/data/texts from the TCL?

I have had success with third level customer service in getting service restored after sim swap. Took two weeks and you have to be available for callback at a different phone at their chosen time.
