Step One: Activate the TCL and click "I want to keep my number." After you finish the all the steps, the TCL will have your current number and service time added to the service that came with the TCL.
Step Two: On a different day, go into your Tracfone account. You will see your current device now listed as inactive. Click activate and "I want to keep my number" and that will move everything back from the TCL to your current device.

Please don't buy this expecting a decent phone, its even a poor entry level phone - read reviews.
Locked TF will not unlock without using original sim. There have been several reports of people not having active lines when they expected & it's extremely frustrating trying to get reinstated.
It's better to do it the right way than being cut off. Support will confirm sim needs to be registered with IMEI of phone.
BTW if you just want cheap service Tracfone store on eBay still has 2 Orbic flip phones with year of service on each for $50.
But it's really just enough to get most people started. Tracfone separates out time left on the current plan, minutes left, texts left, and data left. There are a bunch of options to add to any or all of these, or you can go to an unlimited plan, either by the month, or for a year. Anything you buy is added to the existing amounts.
So... when you get low on the initial amount, go to your tracfone account (website or app) and add to it. OR buy a new tracfone phone with an initial offer, like this one.
Be warned though that tracfone customer service is far and away the absolute worst I have ever experienced. Expect a simply issue to take 30 to 90 minutes on the phone with little hope of a resolution. It is like they are trained to ask endless questions without any ability to help or fix anything at all. About 1 in 4 times they can do a simple fix, but that's about it.
I also have a TCL flip TF phone that I was able to unlock and it works fine with a TMO sim card.
I have the same 2 flip Orbic phones (both activated and working fine as of now)!
Are you saying I can just take out the sim card from these and stick it in an unlocked smartphone and start using it without any issues? Or do I need to do something extra after putting the SIM in the new smartphone?

Also did it with mine - the flips are junk. It's not recommended to swap sim as IMEI will not get registered correctly & can affect future service.

Many Tracfones have poor reviews. I have had Tracfone for several years, and usually buy a new phone every year. And I have had good luck with most of the phones I have had. I've had trouble once or twice, but always gotten it straightened out. I currently have the Samsung A51, and the only trouble I have had with it, is that the battery seems to drain faster than it used to.
Not much point now.
How you use it is up to you.
I tend to run out of data before the 365 days is up, so I pay $10 for 1GB of data every few months.

What if there is another smartphone on the account that is active?
Will Tracfone ask which phone gets the minutes/data/texts from the TCL?
