The internal batteries are lithium, they shouldn't require charging every two weeks, NOCO recommends every 6 months, but most users are reporting that they have to charge it every month. Then again, if the discharge rate is that quick, every two weeks isn't crazy, but that tells you the poor quality of the batteries. not to mention the super low capacity at 2150mah vs other brands.

i have one of these and struggle to start my cars right away. ive had a cheap lithium jump starter and a few lead acid starter boxes, they were all able to easily start my car with in moments of hooking them up. however my NOCO always gives me problems.

These are great little boxes if and only if you keep them regularly charged and at home (which is very inconvenient if you actually need them). If you live in a place like I do where it regularly gets over 100 degrees you cannot keep them in your car or garage. I've been through a few of them and each time the heat killed them. I've tried this exact one and a few different brands and if you forget them in the car, they're toast. But if you're like me and have a motorcycle or two that doesn't get ridden as often as it should you can't beat the size and portability. I still keep getting these because if you have a woot coupon the portability plus price make it okay. Plus noco sells attachment leads you can route to your battery box and plug this into them to jumpstart without having to disassemble your bike. Just leave them in a riding bag that's stored in your nice cool house and set a reminder on your phone to charge it every couple weeks. No one wants to be the guy that ruins a group ride or poker run after pulling up to a gas station and getting stuck there.

You ever push start a bike? Even easier if you're on a group ride. Two guys give you a running shove, pop the clutch, and you're back on the road faster than it takes to hook this jumpstarter to your battery. If you can get the bike pointed downhill, you can easily push start a bike even by yourself under half a minute. It's a good skill to know if you're a rider.
With that being said, there has been times where I'm by myself, on flat ground, trying to push my heavy ass adventure bike to a running start, while wearing full protective gear in 90+ degree weather, where I would've killed for this Jumpstarter.
Don't forget to tell her to (push) start in 2nd gear....... first while possible is to high torque/drag on the bike to make it easy.

This is a small one, but I got a GBX45 on black friday for a few bucks more and it started my completely dead Tacoma truck that another jump starter from Costco wouldn't. Because the NOCO had an override button, that will jump with no voltage detected, the Costco one didn't. So the costco went back and the noco went in the glove box. It started my rruck 3 more times that same day while I was buying a new battery, hetting home and replacing it and still had plenty of charge left. But make sure you get one appropriately sized, this 1000A version should probably be for smaller vehicles. This isn't something to undersize on.

How safe is it to store these in the trunk of your car (in the sun) in the summer heat of Houston, TX?
Totally fine. I have a Jeep that's topless most of the year in AZ and it's just in a tool bag on the floorboard in back and has been for about 4 years.

This thing's a beast, for a couple starts. Was able to jump my beyond dead battery.... but that was it. 2 starts and it didn't have enough to jump it again. But that's what it's purpose is right? But there's no way you're getting anywhere near "upto 20 jumpstarts" with this thing. It's a great life saver or cell phone charger to have JIC..... But $80?? Hhmmmmm.

"The specs of the Battery indicate a max output power rate 2150mAh @ 11.1V.
This is most likely for the jumper cables.
The USB OUT port is completely different; it outputs power at 5V.
So if you're using only the USB out port, the yield from the battery will be:
11.1V ÷ 5V = 2.22
2.22 * 2150mAh = 4,773 mAh @ 5V." -Gas Ginser reviewer
Those ratings are for the actual battery inside the unit, so it has around 24wh of capacity, your math gives the equivalent of a 5v battery with the same watt hour rating. The unit however has a step down circuit much like a car charger steps down from 12v to 5v, so you will have some efficiency loses and won't get a full 24wh from the battery when drawing from that 5v usb port.

If you want one for more than just a jump starter I highly recommend this unit. It can deliver up to 100W on the USBC port which is enough to charge some laptops. It also has a great display for power draw and remaining battery.

Thanks OP, always wanted to get a Noco for my second car. Have a charger for 8L car, have helped jumped start a truck with that charger. This one will work just fine for other car.

To be fair, the gooloo gt4000 is rated at 4000a vs this one rated at 1000a. If you got it for 80 bucks that's a great deal compared to this one but I can't find it currently for under $148.
This product probably compares to the Gooloo 1200amp products which are priced similarly at ~$80.
In general all these companies inflate specs quite a bit so a jump starter rated at 6L not being able to jump a 5.7L V8 even in ideal conditions isn't a huge surprise unfortunately.

I guess I'm just saying both this NOCO and the gooloos are both cheap china made battery packs currently priced around $75 and the real slick deal here is the 4000a one you got for $80.
Do me a favor next time you see the Gooloo 4000a for $80 post it to slickdeals so it will set off the new alert I made Smilie
Looked back at my orders. It was the GP4000. No display on it. It's around 100 bucks now.

May be a QC issue, got a BG20 (500A) 2020 BF, charged and left in trunk. Survived a SoCal summer (90-100s) with 3 bars. Went camping and my buddy's dad's Yukon died completely at the campsite. Was able to jump him to get off the mountain, at the gas station and once more for a lunch/bathroom break. So they do work and hold charge in my exp.

Just checked on it because of this post, it's been a year since I charged it last, and it's still got 2 bars.

All that said, NOCO customer service is some else to be desired. 4 rounds of cut and paste responses that not quite address my issue w/ the battery tender before a human typed out a response.

For those that had issues with this...you may not being using it properly.

I've used this a handful of times from small cars to trucks to full size SUVs. Of particular pain is the 2007 Q7 we have which uses a ridiculous H9 AGM battery between 850-950CCA...but it has worked for this vehicle without fail as well.

We don't see 100 often here, but we do get -30 and sub-zero temperatures and it's been fine kept in the vehicle with minimal discharge. I'd echo what others have said and maybe an average discharge of 1 bar every 1-3 months. But in the warmer months, I have not seen much discharge at all so far.

In any case...if your battery is particularly low or "dead", you will need to utilize the manual override in order to jumpstart the vehicle. See below.

Manual Override Details:
NOCO Genius Boosts are designed to jump start 12-volt lead-acid batteries down to 2-volts. If your battery is below 2-volts, the Boost LED will be "Off". This is an indication that Boost can not detect a battery. If you need to jump start a battery below 2-volts there is a Manual Override feature, which allows you to force "On" the jump start function.

CAUTION. USE THIS MODE WITH EXTREME CARE. THIS MODE IS FOR 12-VOLT LEAD-ACID BATTERIES ONLY. BOTH THE SPARK PROOF AND REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION FEATURES ARE DISABLED. PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE POLARITY OF THE BATTERY BEFORE USING THIS MODE. DO NOT ALLOW THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY CLAMPS TO TOUCH OR CONNECT TO EACH OTHER AS THE PRODUCT WILL GENERATE SPARKS. THIS MODE USES VERY HIGH CURRENT (FROM 400-4000 AMPS) THAT CAN CAUSE SPARKS AND HIGH HEAT IF NOT USED PROPERLY. IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT USING THIS MODE, DO NOT ATTEMPT AND SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP.

Have mine for 3-4 years works great. I make sure this, some tire plugs and my ryobi dual 18v compressor are in my car when i drive out of town. Feels very heavy duty.

I was replacing cheap amazon lithium power packs yearly before this one.

Overstated. Won't even start my 6 cylnder JK Wrangler. I've read other reviews of same issues.

I got a GB20 in mid-September. I first had to use it 4 months later. It was sitting in my trunk the whole time. It was indicating a full charge before, and was down only 1 bar after (easily) jumping a 2.0L engine twice in a day.

In other words, use the same caution you've used in the past 50 years when jump-starting a vehicle with jumper cables.

I'm a believer also, with no issues ever. Started 6-7 cars with it and charge it every 6 months. I don't have heat issues like some as I'm in Wisconsin. Started 2 dead vehicles in -10 weather a few weeks ago with no problem. Bought them for me and my kids and am nothing but pleased. Now buying one for a friend.
