Can anyone comment on the motion blur on these sets? Ratings seem low on these more budget Hisense sets.

Those more knowledgeable than me mind chiming in on my recent purchase.
I just picked up a very similar Hisense for the exact same price.
Link below to the model that I purchased:

Based on BB comparison, the only "meaningful" differences besides the newer model being ~1/2" taller that I see are:

55U6GR / 55U6H
2021 < 2022
Roku / Google
Motion Rate 240 / not listed
Picture enhancement HDR Compatible / Quantum HDR

Is it worth it to unmount, rebox, drive to BB, return, purchase newer model, unbox, remount, setup? I'm not seeing it...but again asking those that may know more than I.

The Hisense U6H and the Hisense U6GR are similar TVs with different smart platforms. The U6H has Google TV, while the U6GR uses Roku TV, so choosing one over the other depends on which platform you prefer. The two TVs perform similarly overall, but the U6GR gets brighter in HDR and has better gradient handling, so it's the better choice if you often watch HDR content.

Ensure you have a three year or better on this brand. It will have issues.

My bad, making a comment on the wrong TV, but I will say the Google TV OS is riddled with bugs.

I have the Chromecast w/ Google TV that I run on a Roku TV. I love it and experience no issues. I figured I should get a TV with a Google TV OS but I keep reading how bad they are. Any idea why there's such a dramatic difference in experience?

I would say because the Google and Android TV's need a better processor than what comes with these lower/midrange HiSense TV's. My 2020 H8G is the same, keeps restarting on its own or going back to main menu when using built in Android apps.

I connected an external Roku device and have no problems using it that way.

Bought this as a budget TV for a spare room based on rtings review. I returned it the next day, it looks awful. Motion is choppy, colors are bad and it had some kind of weird flickering in dark scenes.

Because it's operating the TV components and Google doesn't have any experience in it. There are bugs everywhere. For instance. It takes 8 seconds for it to turn on my Vizio sound bar via HDMI-CEC.. On a Roku TV, it's instant. Power LED will come back on in a few hours even though I have it set to stay off after powering off TV. The TV guide shows absolutely no data. .
A Chromecast w/ Google doesn't have to do any of that.

Can you disable whatever is "smart" about these TVs with OS baked-in?

Ugh no. I had Hisense in my office and died 18-months later. Not worth the price and it is a common issue with the 55-inch variant.

You can set it up for basic TV and just use, cable, antenna or HDMI. However all the TV controls for tuning color etc are done by Android and that's where most of the bugs are.
