I own one of these. If you're using a MagSafe case for your iPhone, the magnets on this battery is plenty strong.
Note, its predecessor (521) is still available and it's about $10 less. During the holidays, it was $20 new on Amazon.
For the 621, it's a tad overpriced IMO. The 5000 mAh battery won't get you much when you factor in the power loss due to wireless charging, and the USB-C port on the battery isn't PD in case you wanted to fast-charge your phone with a cable.

I know it will depend on the case, but who "strong" a connection does this make when using a case?
Not strong enough to stick unless set down or in your hand. It will charge but I wouldn't even expect it to stick to a non magsafe case in a pocket or purse with movement.
I have this exact same one and the previous model. Both of them doesn't hold a charge anymore after a year of usage. When they were working, they were amazing. It sticks to your phone as long your phone doesn't have a case or has the MagSafe case.
If you're really in the market for a magsafe 5000mha charger just get the mophie snap+ juice pack, I managed to get one for $24 through t-mobile but I've seen it on sale plenty of times. It's currently $28 on ebay and it comes with a 2 year manufacturer warranty, I also have the 10,000 mha one and they're pretty dope

I can vouch the Caudabe Sheath case has very strong magnets, much stronger than Apple cases and others I've tried in the past. I have this battery pack and it doesn't budge once it's on the case.
Is the phone with this charger attached to the back awkward/uncomfortable to hold?
I was debating on getting this, but ATM I'm just using a basic brick portable battery with a cable. Any reason to switch to this?
It depends on the size of the attached battery. The Apple MagSafe battery is the thinnest MagSafe battery pack I've used and the most comfortable. You will notice it's there but not uncomfortable. This battery pack is a little thicker and heavier, so you might notice and be a little less comfortable handling your phone.
I have the one with a pop Socket. pretty terrible. I knew they can overheat, but assumed it's rare. well, mine overheats like half the time I try to use it.
I got one of these for traveling. The capacity isn't great but you get to use your phone while it's charging, and it charges with usb-c unlike the Apple battery. No more lightning cables. Now if only they would make the watch also Qi-compatible...
