This thing is an old style gun for work on large wires. If you're doing any kind of reasonably precision work you should pickup either a station or pinecil. I use my pinecil regularly and its far more convenient than this behemoth.
Oh for crying out loud, no reason to gatekeep over a freakin' SOLDERING IRON. Get over yourself.

It's a fair question for someone to ask, and the only way they're going to learn is by asking.
Hey, ignore the other person who replied to you who's trying to gatekeep a freakin' soldering iron. Your question is fair and valid.

The ryobi is nice if you're doing very light duty work that's not temperature sensitive. Think soldering speaker wires together. I wouldn't use it on a circuit board extensively, as it doesn't have that granular levels of temp control, but you could use it for larger through-hole components like resistors and whatnot. Like I said, not my first choice. I'd probably go with the Pinecil soldering iron as a starter iron for circuit board work.

The Weller gun is nice for larger, chonky wires -- like extension cord thicknesses. It's a very hot iron at 260w/200w, and has virtually no temp control. It's like taking a torch to something. And sometimes, you need that ability to dump a LOT of heat into something quickly. I wouldn't take this thing anywhere near a circuit board.

An example of when big and powerful high-wattage soldering is needed that I just had: Battery terminal on my motorcycle is normally a piece of brass crimped on end of very thick stranded wire. The crimp broke and brass fell off leaving just wire. Tried soldering wire to what was left of brass piece so could I hook it back up to battery. This brass/wire junction laughed at my 75 watt pencil soldering iron, regardless of how high I set the heat. Simply put, not enough heat output to flow solder on a super thick wire to a large brass piece. This 200watt gun would probably have worked good, but I didn't have one. I ended up using a propane torch, flux, and solder, however it was far uglier than if I had this higher wattage soldering gun because with a gun, you can control solder flow direction. With a torch, it's just heat, melt, and hope.

Looks bulky, don't think this is for mini gadget repairs. I have one almost pen-sized and very comfortable to work with, I wonder who uses these, most likely on vehicles, etc.? I'm not sure. But this one is definitely not for small gadget work.

This thread is too much. People asking about incomparable irons, Selman calls out the naive questions with solid advice but gets chewed out for 'gatekeeping'. No one is here to be coddled for asking bad questions. Be glad they responded at all and taught you something.
