I'd caution anyone looking to root their device that when you see a phone called 'unlocked' it frequently is referring to 'SIM unlocked' rather than 'bootloader unlockable' -- I cannot stress enough that these are *drastically* different things. It is the latter (bootloader unlockable) which allows for rooting to be achieved. The former (SIM unlocked) just allows you to use whichever carrier you choose right out of the gates without any hassle.

Notably, not nearly as many people root anymore, and the ability to unlock the bootloader is not something that matters if you're not planning to root.

To preface, I traded in my Pixel 5 or a Pixel 7 Pro a little before Christmas. I haven't experienced the camera glass shattering, but I've read a lot about it. It has nothing to do with how the user handles the device. It's a design flaw related to the difference in thermal expansion between the metal camera bar and the camera glass. It only affects people who have used their phones for extended periods of time in extreme cold weather.

Google at first gave users push back when trying to get warranty repair or replacement, but has now recognized that it is not the user's fault and is quick to rectify the issue.

Not trying to be rude, but someone would have to go through literally the exact same process you would to obtain that information, so why not just go check the value yourself on best buy website?

Not sure there are percentages of failure out there yet on the camera glass shattering, but... I probably wouldn't advise getting a Pixel for even this price. If there's a trade-in again like the one we saw in November(?) that makes the P7 at least super cheap with trade-in, then that probably is worth it...

Feeling kinda disappointed with Google lately since my 5a got the black screen of death, and now hearing about the camera glass shattering on some 7s
yep, p7 is VERY delicate. One small drop, back shattered, camera not working. Report from reddit also indicate camera sjatttering without dropping. Over the years I have dropped many Samsung and iPhone, none broke.

Their trade in credit is bad. They are only giving me like $150 for my Galaxy S21 Ultra.

To each their own, as I wholly regret moving from my Note 20 Ultra to the pixel 7. I was too tempted since I made money on the trade in with a nice holiday promo, but I really miss the Samsung. I honestly can't think of one thing the Pixel does better. It's fine, but not great. It does everything I need but I'm left wanting. Tapping a web link around the damn edge of the curved display is something I'll never get used to, as it's always frustrating.

Specs are nice, it works well enough, but I'll trade it in a heartbeat when I can get an S22 or something for a 1:1 swap.

The other issue is the massive amount of crap I had to fine tune to make the phone somewhat likeable. I'm not an Apple fanboy and I feel like Google is doing everything in its power to mimic Apple in that they try and railroad you into using their proprietary services, have data-harvesting/anti-privacy feature under the sun enabled, and few in the Android community seem to care.

In the same boats.
S22 ultra to Pixel 7.. and now back to S22 ultra.
My biggest disappointment was the fingerprint scanner with banking app. Rarely works and then the app forces to use password

The only reason for me to get this would be installing GrapheneOS. But insulting trade-in $ for my S21 ($100 for close to pristine) and battery / fingerprint issues = pass.

I hope it's not garbage like the Pixel 6 I bought. Pure garbage from battery all the way to the fingerprint reader.
It's better than the 6, but after all the software updates the 6 Pro has been great. Didn't see much difference between 6 Pro and 7Pro tbh.

True. I bought Note-5 from ATT directly, and paid the full charges. Devi e came locked but the key is also given as an SMS. I unlocked it with the given key and it was all good, was able to use any SIM cards. After 2.5 years I had to replace the battery, sent it to Samsung but it came back with a lock. I'm not able to retrieve old SMS, never able to retrieve key from old messages. ATT was unable to unlock too

I have seen enough friends with their p7p cracked screens, all of the cracks on the top corners. If I were to buy this, they will have to offer insane trade in prices for me to bite. I would buy this for camera, but will wait for BF.

Honest question for those of you with the broken phones. Do you guys use cases? Good ones? Like the hard TPU cases that are thin but still offer excellent drop protection? I have a Pixel 2XL that I beat the absolute crap out of, have dropped countless times, constantly throw around (literally) and still I've not had it break. It's not luck, it's the case. It's mind boggling to me that some walk around with hard plastic cases, cases that expose the screen edges or corners of the phone, and so on.

Why does this phone reminds me of Krang from TMNT?

these crack with just being on a surface or pocket with a little pressure. A case won't help unless you put a thicc otterbox defender
