This is definitely not required. I know someone that's had one for 10+ years with daily use, rarely cleans it, still runs great

Take a spoon and run water over it. Stir the beans with spoon before grinding. Problem solved.

any issue with the mess caused by fly away grounds from static? I'm hoping to solve this problem with this upgrade.

I've had it for well over 5 years, works great, zero issues (no static and I live in a near-zero humidity location), I would buy this again easy.

Had mine for 6 years, I've had static issues here and there. I've tried to diffuse them with a couple of drops of water, but no luck. But, at other times things are fine. It does burr well though, but still can be messy.

Side note this is a good price considering it was $90 six years ago.

I don't have it (I ended up getting an OXO) but this line put it on my short list:
"Gear reduction motor grinds slow w/reduced noise & little static build-up"

In my experience, it's the static that causes the mess.

Have this ,only downside for a lazy person like me is the need to clean this thoroughly after each use.

I have this problem w/ my baratza, if you wait a few minutes after grinding the static dissipates

I have this and love it. Paid $100 without a coupon a year or so ago. Highly recommend. Static seems to be a bean-to-bean thing, though nothing major.

I have this and it works great except for very oily beans which clog up the grinder. The worst is SF Bay French Roast. I have no problems with less oily beans.

Where do I know you from again?

Seriously, after 10 years of owning a burr grinder and the means to brew coffee at 200*F, it never gets old, I only regret not owning them earlier. Most failures happen under warranty; buy another when it wears out.

I am a burr grinder novice - currently using a Krups blade grinder for making French Press coffee (the only kind of coffee I make) - and have been looking for a burr grinder deal to make the switch. Two questions:
  1. Is this grinder available in-store as well (normally things a bit cheaper in a Costco store when available both online and in-store)?
  2. How does one specify the amount of coffee to grind? Is that done by the large 1-10 dial?

I bought a refurb one of these ~ 15 years ago and it's still going strong. For the comments above about cleaning it, I may have done that 5 times and not that there was a specific need to do so. I grind on the finer side and generally have oily beans (Starbucks French roast) and currently have the SF Bay Dark Roast on sale at Costco.

This is a good grinder for the money. I've had mine 10 years. BEST add on was this stainless steel coffee portafilter cup which can be used to replace the staticky plastic bin/cup. Espresso Coffee Portafilter Dosing Cup Powder Feeder for 58mm Portafilter, Steel Dosing Cup Coffee Sniffing Mug Espresso Machine Portafilter Coffee Tamper, Silver (58mm) https://a.co/d/j8QdQIb I use it for both French press and espresso ☕️ works great. No hesitation should be on buying this for all your coffee grind needs.
