Saw the 32oz 12 pack at Ollie's for $10.99 yesterday, but looking for wide mouth for growing sprouts
Two pieces are usually used for jaring items like jam or soups. You need to boil the jars to create a suction between the two pieces and it will seal well. If you are looking for single caps, check out my previous post.
any deal on wide mouth jars?

This is a great deal compared to current prices. Anything under a buck a jar you should jump on. Thanks OP!

Anyone else's Walmart cant keep the wide mouths in stock? Or stopped carrying them completely? I ended up buying two cases from Tractor Supply's sale last fall, but I noticed that the wide mouth section is now gone when they shuffled everything around for the valentine's stuff.

Edit: Now the shipping option is gone.

Can anyone comment why their cap/top has two parts instead of one piece?

FYI Meijer (regional grocery store chain from Michigan to Kentucky) has canning supplies to, in the Home section. I believe their prices are the same, but I have more jars than I need anymore. SD syndrome. Smilie

The vacuum part is correct, but that's how any seal works with old style canning. The two part jar lid has an inexpensive, stamped disc with a sealing layer that is replaced the next time you reuse the jar for canning. The threaded metal ring is reusable, and also works to help close the jar after opening, pulling the disc part down.

This was develped in 1915, today we have all kinds of alternative sealing techniques. Just for jollies, I just looked it up and the crown cork bottle cap (i.e. beer bottles) was developed in 1892. Evidently this was a case of technology having reached a certain point where commercial mass production of metal lids with a sealing layer was inevitable. Ironically, both were developed in the US.

Regular for the past few months at least. They were dropping down to $8.99 here and there, and I picked some up then. But, I have been hoping to see some of the previous clearance prices of around $3-6. But, it was kind of hard to get jars this past season, so perhaps they were not inundated with inventory.

You just have to stock up when available. For instance, I buy two packs to make tea as gifts for people every holiday
