TMo executive board meeting:
"So, there's this Mint Mobile company that's using our network but charging a lot less. What should we do?"
"I dunno, copy their intro promo?"
"I dunno, buy them out with our $$$?"
"How about both?"
"Nice job, Johnson. Time to hit the bar, everybody."

No CC required. I think no address required either...it's very easy sign-up!
New user is new IMEI (device not used on the T-Mobile network).

Sadly hilarious. Yet I wanted to activate my tablet on my existing plan and they made me drive to a corporate store and wait there an hour because I had to "prove" who I was to them. Absolutely ridiculous security priorities with these clowns, but too cheap to change.
I heard ID theft able to get iPhone without paying by opening (AT&T/Tmobile) cellphone plan under your name. And you will get monthly bill (from wireless carrier like AT&T) to pay for the iPhone.

What happened is people with your information (like the recent Equfiax Data Breach), those ID theft people able to open AT&T wireless account online using your name and your credit. If you have open wireless account online before, you probably know they just need to answer few questions and your SSN to open the account. And probably can get those from various data breach.
And then they order the iPhone from AT&T using "YOUR" credit (wireless account they opened using your info). And later on, you will get a bill from AT&T saying your account (using your credit) purchased the iPhone and you have to pay back AT&T with your monthly bill.
So if you have Fraud Alerts put into your credit report before or Tmobile/AT&T know your personal info has been stolen before, they may require you to go to the store to prove it is you and avoid "someone else" using your credit to get things like iPhone from their store. If someone knowing your personal information can open a line with your existing account, who know what else they can do with the new line you own like additional device purchase using that new line created with your credit.

I'm trying to do this on my unlocked s20. The T-Mobile app is showing me my phone isn't eligible because it's not connected to any network yet people here are saying it doesn't need to be connected to a network but that very thing is in the terms.

I've been using this for 1 week. So far everywhere I've gone, TMobile has had faster speeds than AT&T

T-Mobile has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. It doesn't surprise me that they have to resort to tactics like this in order to woo customers.
Also, in case you didn't know, T-Mobile is closing most, if not all, of their physical stores. For people that have simple, easily solved issues, this isn't a problem. However, for people with technical issues, older folks who need 1 on 1 help setting up a new phone, etc, this is a problem. The only time I ever got real help was in a brick & mortar location. We left when they started throttling the assistance that in store employees could do to help & started forcing customers to go online or to call. All we needed to do was apply the nurse's discount to our account. Instead they closed our account, opened a new one, failed to transfer our phones & all promotions that we had along with it. They strung us along for 2 weeks attempting to fix their problem, each time giving us a different story and outright lying to us about what they did that caused the problem. They never remedied the problem they caused & we ended up closing our account & going to Verizon.
Totally disagree, as I think they have the best customer service out of all the wireless carriers. They go out of their way tot help!

By the time you get your monthly bill from AT&T (showing iPhone that you didn't buy) and report that to Police for ID theft and then follow up with AT&T (and AT&T take action after their own investigation), probably weeks or even month already. The person already sold the iPhone they bought from AT&T store using the account created from your info/credit and got the money from the sell(when imei hasn't been blocked) .

I tried this with a new unlocked phone and after checking eligibility, it shows that, "Sorry the phone needs an existing wireless provider to participate in Network Pass". This is a new phone and not connected with any network. Only Wi-Fi. Any suggestions?
