Clarifying question for the memory experts: So, the memory installed is rated 4800MHZ, but it is set to perform only at 4400MHZ with no way of tweaking it to get the higher speed. Is that right? It is ridiculous (and misleading) that they would advertise it as 4800MHZ, but actual operation would be throttled to 4400MHZ.

I see Samsung in the parts list, with Hynix and Micron listed as substitutes. And Crucial (Micron) has a long list of compatible RAM for this SKU.

I'm not experienced with XMP and can see how not supporting this, if accurate, might limit the ability to fully utilize high-performance RAM, but I don't see how this limits RAM choices to what is only available new directly from Lenovo.
You are correct, I bought additional Samsung ram for mine, as noted just can't be XMP versions but jedec I believe. No biggie, I notice no performance issues. Computer is fast.

I have a 10700 and gtx 1660 Super. I have it on performance mode and it only gets loud when playing Crysis. When playing less demanding games my PC is pretty quiet. I am guessing you bought yours from Costco. I bought mine directly from Lenovo and it had a tower CPU cooler and 3 case fans. The Costco one had a generic CPU cooler and 2 or 3 case fans. So adding another case fan or upgrading the CPU cooler may help if you bought the Costco version. But you should check whether it is the CPU or GPU that has the loud fan. Anyways, I am going to buying Dell PCs as my Dell XPS from 2008 is still running perfectly fine and almost never crashes. Also Dell keeps their drivers up to date better than HP and way better than Lenovo.
Yes i got it from Costco two years ago. It is just annoying that the fan noise is so big to tolerate even put on quiet mode to play CS Go or DOTA at medium graphics setup, just so frustrating. I think it is the CPU thing which i am waiting on the 12th gen i7. However, maybe those ibuypower or skytech etc built PCs are better than brand's prebuilt?

This is correct, or at least there is no option in bios to change it

Those games should be super quiet when playing them, at least on my Lenovo. But mine has a 150W tower CPU cooler vs the 65W CPU cooler than the Costco one had.

ibuypower or skytech are good since they use standardized parts. But according to Gamer's Nexus the parts are not installed correctly so you may have to reapply thermal paste to the CPU. Also ibuypower has a sticker that says "assembled from tested components (complete system not tested)". So be prepared to troubleshoot your PC. The OEM PCs should work fine right out of the box but most use proprietary parts.

Looks like a decent deal. Any propreitary parts or are they all off-the-shelf?
I jave a 7i and you cannot access the memory timings so pretty much any ram upgrade brings the ram down to default speed... slow.

How is the i5 version for 849? Seems like a good deal as well. Just bought an Asus ROG i5-11400f for 799 at sam's but this is a better unit and even bb has that one for 699. Good thing we didn't open it yet. Getting for my son to play some games

I saw this at micro center on sale as well Idk much about pcs but this seems like it has 512gb ssd instead of 256 and also 50$ cheaped. If anyone can confirm the specs are same and this deal is definitely better than best buy.

One question I have is how do I get legal windows pro at a reasonable price for building own pc. I have never figured this out. Thanks to all for insight.
I got a legal copy of Win 11 at Kingwin, as shown here for ~$40:

I had to call M$FT to get the key activated, but they did it no problem.

Losing too much performance for a small price drop, both cpu/gpu nerfed, not worth it.

The 11th gen microcenter one is even worse, that was a botched generation intel cpu.

How are people liking this desktop now that they have had it for a while?

Before I saw this deal today, I just picked up an ibuypower "slatemesh2070" with an i7-12700F CPU and an RTX3060 GPU (also from Best Buy) on sale for $150 more.
Had not heard about the brand since I switched from desktops to laptops a while back. However when I sorted by rating on bestbuy.com, the ibuypower was right at the top with a 4.8 / 5 rating (across just under 700 reviews) and is 97% recommended.
Also read some people who have had them for years with great reliability.
I have have not opened it yet though while checking alternatives.

The ibuypower has a bigger PSU than the Legion in this deal.
The Ibuypower has a 600W PSU (Thermaltake I believe) vs. only a 500W PSU on the Legion Tower 5i. PSU size is important with these RTX30xx cards

The ibuypower has a 512GB SSD vs 256GB on the Legion (I would get extra SSDs, so not a huge deal for me, but larger SSD drives tend to last longer = higher TBW).
The PSU is a bigger deal to me.

Also it seems the Legion is a midsize case so, as I believe someone pointed out here on SD. So getting a new motherboard for the Legion might require a proprietary model (just in case of failure or to support a potential motherboard upgrade down the road).
