Many people don't trust those drives, so yes, this is a good deal if this is the drive you're looking for.

So many storage deals but I'm still waiting for a NAS system deal…

Just want to point out that the Red Plus have a 3-year warranty, whereas the Red Pro has 5.
Also, the Pro type is supposed to last longer than the Plus.
I own both types for almost 3 years and so far my Red Plus (5400rpm) is still going strong.
But good deal nevertheless; thinking of jumping on that deal since the Plus are 7200rpm; my NAS might be louder than usual though

Just a word of advice to check your drives when they arrived. I bought two of the 18TB a few months ago when it was on sale, and while one drive arrived tightly packed, the other was loosely packed, rattled in the box, and was DOA. Getting the return done was a real pain in the ass too.

Good luck!

Check the subtotal as I bought 4 and it went to the discounted price.
Just checked. The deal works on quantities of 2 and 4, but not 6 or 8 and presumably not for more either though I didn't test beyond that

Those people (at least in recent forum posts and especially in here) almost universally seem to distrust them because a couple of quickly discontinued drive models didn't look as good as some others on a backblaze report, when WD red plus isn't in them at all due to being a lesser class of drive (in terms of durability/performance/vibration rating).

I shudder to think what would happen if we ran WD red or red plus for our data needs.

But then again, most people on here appear to want to stick a couple of drives together to back up movies on. For that application, it probably won't make much of a difference.
So what drives do you run… please don't say seagate ironwolfs 🤣 snd claim WD Reds are less reliable!

I've been pulling Whites (rebadged Reds) out of Easystores since 2017. All 18 drives still running smoothly with zero signs of problems being powered on 24/7

Just build it yourself. It's extraordinarily easy with options such as Unraid, TrueNAS, OpenMediaVault, and Proxmox. It's practically idiot proof and doesn't require much beyond a functioning computer and some drives. You don't need something like Synology and frankly it's a giant waste of money considering the DIY options now available.

Why the hell did I get downvoted?

Here's how you justify it: upgrade your desktop and convert the old machine into a TrueNAS server. Smilie

Good price. This model typically goes on sale for right around $209 and currently sitting at ~$250-260 right now. So getting new retail direct from WD is a plus.
So $209X2 = $418. This is just regular sale price...seems to be not a good deal. Maybe on 16TB...

How noisy are the Reds? Do they tick and crunch a lot, like the enterprise / ultrastar WDs?

Yeah, just go get some lithium-ion batteries and build your own electric car too! WHO NEEDS A TESLA?
