My OnePlus 6T bought in Nov'18 is still working well with some degradation in battery performance. OP wants such customers to trade-in with bonus $200 trade-in value. Only thing that's concerning is 3rd party they use to evaluate trade in once you send the phone. OP community forum is filled with horrible experiences about trade in program.
this is a BEAST phone. and when i go on vacation it works our a mini media center with kodi and retroarch and ALL the games i need with bluetooth controllers and plugged into the tv via the usb c to hdmi
wondering if i should bug sprint for a new free flagship phone. (i got my 8t+ free for being with spring for like forever)

according to the article you linked, phones sold in the chinese market have the spyware. international need not apply.
also if oneplus was found to do this in the states, they would be barred just like xiaomi.
