I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

Southern California here. Went to 2 corporate stores. Called 4.
My 2 local corporate stores:
First one, went in, didn't have any in stock apparently.
Second one they had in stock but wouldn't give me at the deal price even when I showed them the webpage. I'm filing a FCC complaint against them, not sure if this does anything though.

I called 4 other corporate stores that are kinda a further drive away and they all said they had none in stock, which I think was a lie they just didn't want to sell at the promotional price.

Anyway the Metro nightmare is consistent with what others are reporting Smilie
Save yourself the headache and just do the Boost online deal.

Expect less refurbished for iPhone 12 and beyond because since iPhone 12 started require authentic apple parts third parties cannot repair them anymore
This isn't a refurb. I've done this deal before and it didn't say refurb anywhere

Porting in google fi does not work as it uses t-mobile. Currently trying unlocked google voice, but there is some issues with the service called bandwidth that google voice uses. Will update afterwards.
Some Google Voice numbers will show that provider. I was able to deal last time, it just took them a little longer to process… maybe 24 hours

Can I port in from the same nvmo , like Boost Mobile to this ?

I have an XR for work and 13 pro personal, and the 5g isn't even a big deal. Majority of my use is web browsing for data and information and 4G vs 5G is barely noticeable. I don't feel that there is any thing I couldn't do on the XR vs my 13 pro , aside from gaming because I don't play mobile games.

Not worth the hassle dealing with shady salespeople. Just get a refurb from Tracfone or ST for around $150

It is worth the hassle. I have a sprint/tmobile plan that is grandfathered in with 3 lines all unlimited for $40 total including taxes. I use the iphone XR/11's for trade in's for iphone 14 pro max's when they have promotions that give $800 to $1000 trade in for each phone. I plan to stay with sprint/tmobile for life at the prices I am paying for service.

I went to 3 different ones today: 1st one said there is an extra $40 "phone activation fee" plus I have to get insurance. 2nd one said I have to sign up for a $72 a month plan. 3rd one said there are a lot of taxes on iphones, it will be like $250.

I guess the second one would have been the best deal, but I was already too angry.
Metro by T-Mobile scam artists.

Vegas here, just got mine for 155 out the door. Cheapest option I could find after going to 2 stores and calling a 3rd
for 1 or 2 iphone 11's? If its for one then you got ripped off. I got 2 for $133 OTD. I posted my receipt for anybody to PM. I used boost mobile XR refurb deal for $23 to port out. I was on boost for about 1 hour before I ported out.

This is a question to ask somebody in your country. Find out what phone provider your mother uses, and ask if iPhones work on their network (probably will work, throughout my travels I haven't seen any telecom provider that does not support the iPhone). Another question to ask is if a phone purchased abroad (meaning you buy here in the US) will work reliably there. Some South East Asian country tries to curb grey market imports (essentially what you're planning to do) by whitelisting IMEI of phones that's already paid local taxes/import tariffs. Unheard of in the USA I know. Always a possibility.

The iPhone 11 in this thread will be locked to Metro for at least 6 months (can't put any other SIM than Metro).

Edit: If you're going to use it on WiFi only, then by all means, buy whatever iPhone, even this one.
You don't understand the whole point into getting the iphone 11. Its for trade in purposes only to really get the whole value for them, Nobody is really holding these for 6 months to unlock then flip when phone companies give you $800 to $1000 during trade in promos. They don't care if its unlocked or locked for trade in purposes. I traded in 2 locked iphone 11;s before to sprint and got $800 each for them to upgrade to iphone 13 pro max's and got to stay on my cheap $40 unlimited plan for 3 lines. Yes 3 lines for $40 all in including the taxes with auto pay.
