I bought this for $179.99 a couple of days ago after needing one for my small office. After doing much research, reviews are generally positive.

I think it was Epson that said they were no longer going to make small laser printers, too much waste compared to inkjets.

I wouldn't mind inkjets, but every one I have bought the ink dries out or the heads get dirty and never print right Frown

I have an Epson eco tank, worked well for the past few years and haven't needed to buy ink once (don't use it often). You're right that it can dry or clog the head though if you don't use it for an extended period of time. There's a deep clean function it can run and that usually fixes it for me. + replacement ink from Amazon is like $15 for all four tanks.

Not sure if they have improved on the technology, but the cleaning function also uses a lot of ink to clear out the cartridge and head, so you will go through more ink each time you have to run the cleaning process. I think most wouldn't mind an inkjet, but I never bought one again after 2 inkjets failed the same way. Old technology that they don't plan on improving.

Yeah it definitely takes a bit of ink but the eco tanks hold so much and it's so cheap for ink that spending $20/year isn't too bad.

I have no experience with this model, but my brother printer is the only printer that I've never felt the urge to throw out the window.

I have one of these Brother Inktank printers. If you don't print very often the heads get clogged to the point you'll never get it fixed. I ran the deep clean on my black 10 times and it's still not printing right. I don't use it for anything important so not a huge deal, but if you're an occasional printer and need presentable professional documents don't waste the money. I'm currently looking into getting a monochrome laser printer.

I bought bigger version of this printer ( 17") , use it to print posters and it is fantastic.
My previous Brother inkjet lasted 20 years.

Yeah, I looked at them, but spending $500 is mindblowing

I can't believe that a printer company hasn't made a decent inkjet in 20 years

Oh that's so expensive. The 2800 is only $199. I think I have the 2750.

My wife uses a MFC-J4335DW, and I use an old MFC-J885DW which has been a workhorse. We're happy with the MFC-J4335DW, and I would like to get one replace my printer so that we have the same ink. However mine just won't die lol.

We can send a solar-powered camera millions of miles away, create computers that are better writers than most Americans, and even clone organisms, but a reliable printer is just too difficult.

In all reality, there is no financial incentive to building a good printer. Manufacturers need repeat customers every few years. The only solution is to create a company that develops and sells a single model that is near-perfect, but for only two or three years. In this case, a printer that is easily repaired and refillable with commonly found supplies. It would cost about $800 but could be repaired easily and cheaply for a lifetime. After 2 or 3 years, the company would stop making that device forever. The money they've generated from the printers would go to developing the next item, let's say a toaster oven/air fryer. It would cost $500, and the process would repeat.

What kind of 'waste'? Also I don't recall Epson ever making a laser printer.

All the printer companies should be ashamed of themselves. Stuck in 1998 with no legitimate advancements. Likely another biz school case study where the execs and management is all 72 year olds that need to retire.

I guess that's true if you completely ignore the ink tank printers that have come out in the last few years, that turn the revenue model for the industry on its head and dramatically reduce the cost of consumables (Ink Tank printers cost so much because they have to make their profit on the printers).
