Horribly designed drives. The Keychain hole is unusable, and blocks neighboring usb ports.

The Kingston SE9 is the ONLY great Keychain drive. Fast, cheap, all metal, and rugged. The Kingston Data Traveler with the plastic Keychain loop is a runner up. I prefer the SE9 as I had an early 8gb version on my keychain for 8 years before replacing it with a 256gb version.
this is the Tesla factory USB for tesla dash cam. not to say it is good or bad, but it maybe a good price for those who use it for that purpose.
Just a heads up that the metal case gets hot with heavy use. The case is a heatsink and this is actually a good thing and quite normal.

Are these USB sticks better than the portable SSD for.long term storage? Looking to backup and archive family photos and videos.
They're likely worse than SSDs but neither are a good choice for long term storage. Hard drives or Blu-Ray discs (except the less common LTH type) should be better choices, without getting into expensive and exotic options (tape, etc.). Regardless, you want to keep multiple copies of important data and in multiple physical locations.

Anyone know how these compare to the Samsung Fit Plus?

I have both and they're functionally identical. Performance is virtually the same and both feel about the same temperature. The main differences are the physical design. I may have gotten a defective one but my BAR Plus is a very tight fit. True to its name, the FIT Plus fits better.

I have this. It is horrible on your keychain, sticking out uncomfortably next to keys. It also seems to be really rough on USB ports, I haven't figured out why. I just stopped using it.
Quote from atx85 :
I really like the drives and have 3 or 4 of them. However, I do agree with you. The design is not ideal. Using them on a keyring usually sticks out at a 90* angle. Also can't use them side by side in most USB ports.

Those issues are quite annoying. However, most of the time it doesn't stop me from being able to use the device for its intended purpose. Never had one fail in the many years of ownership either. So if these issues don't bother you, they will work great for you.
Easy solution for that is to add one of the mini key rings onto your main ring that just has the drive. Idk about you but I have them on all sorts of things around the house that don't need them, so don't even have to buy one. Makes it not stuck on the big ring and get to enjoy the perks of a good flash drive without dealing with the design flaw. Love mine and have used it at minimum weekly for the past 3 years.

Yeah but Kingston sucks. I've never had a Samsung drive fail. I had 1 Kingston SD card, it was in my camera and failed, lost a year's worth of pictures of my kids. A big 🖕to Kingston
I had a 64 gig fail. Samsung came through with a replacement though

Neither is good. Flash drives and SSDS slowly lose data over a few months or years.

HDDs or a bunch of blu rays are your best bet. Keep a copy in your PC, one in a drawer in the house, and one drive offsite in case your house burns down or is robbed or something.

Even HDDs have magnetic data degradation over about a decade. Optical media is plastic and fragile and can die in months or years. With HDDS, copy all the data off and back on once every 5 years or so.

Also, cheap cloud storage with Backblaze can be a good offsite backup option.

Or print everything in black and white and stick it in a box. Black and white inks last forever, color fades after a decade or so and is nearly gone after 50-70 years.

I've had two of those braided cable flash drives. Both snapped off and vanished within a year.

I don't know if I would call those "fast". I think I read 15Mb write speeds? I bought a tiny Samsung fit plus for $24, and I have been happy with it. It also has a hole you could connect to a chain or tie a string loop to stick on your key ring. SAMSUNG MUF-256AB/AM FIT Plus 256GB - 400MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive, Gunmetal Gray https://a.co/d/hEaxuTp

I also have an Adata uv128 128gb flash drive that has never failed me in close to 10 years. It has also been through the wash once or twice. It too has a small spot to attach a string. I never have though.

Nah, the Kingston SE9 is about 80 MBPS if I recall correctly. Plenty fast for my use.

Currently yeah, but they were like half that not too long ago. Probably a stock issue.

I'd still pay that price, because I know it's gonna last 8 years on my keychain.

So, and (fact check me) I rarely contribute because I rarely have anything good to say, these are my "office," I mean literally I do not use the hard drive, and according to the Amazon, "Purchased another variation 1 time Last purchased Sep 19, 2018 | Color: Gray | Size: 128 GB | View item." This has not failed me since, no drive failures/no back-up drive failures.

Not that I need 128 gb or even 256 gb, but I am buying another one before they go changing things and it does start failing. This is a great deal.
