Every time there is a deal on a small USB drive, someone has to come and suggest a huge stick as an alternative. Please, don't. We are all aware of the benefits and drawbacks of small form factors.

So I really want to get this, but to put on a keychain, and even with a lanyard I'm afraid that the plastic loop will eventually break, as many of the reviews say it does (although most of those people appear to have put metal rings on it), and I'll lose it. I encrypt my thumb drives but I'd still rather not lose it.

The only viable alternatives I've seen for mini thumb drives are another Samsung that comes with a USB-C connector, but that also has a plastic body and loop:

And a PNY that appears to have a thicker loop, but many reviews report that it comes apart with use, with the loop part separating from the circuit board:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088RMCCLR

There's also a mini Sandisk, but the housing is cheap plastic which won't last on a keychain:

I wish flash drive makes put more thought into how people actually use these things and their physical design.

It's a USB-A 3.1. The USB-C is a few $$ more but probably works better going forward with more devices going from USB-A to USB-C..

Have this, ^^^, put the hole piece on a keychain, the other lives mostly in the machines. Have not had issues with shuttling back and forth between different machines and across distances.

Samsung flash drive with proven speeds up to 400. Matches similar frontpage deal from Newegg.

It is a bit small, and I was afraid I would lose it. I wanted a charm that I could just loop through the hole. I ended up finding a little charm around a bottle of booze I had. Looped it through, and now it is easy to keep up with. Not sure if it would hold up on some keys, but it's easy to find. If you wanted it on keys maybe use monofilament fishing line or denim thread.

I have 3 of these (128 though). Use them just about every day for file recovery, backup, and file transfer. 1 is starting to act weird. Other 2 are fine. Been about a year. YMMV.

I wish they made more metallic frame ones. I keep mine on my Keychain and it's held up for many years. I've been meaning to upgrade but it gets less use every year.

My last 2 keychain backup drives were all metal and worked well. I just outgrew them. Well, the 64GB, and soon the 128GB one. Plus they fail eventually due to the nature of the medium so it's wise to replace them every few years. They get banged up but still survive. The one thing I don't like about them, other than USB-A, which makes for a too-tight fit, is that they stick out too much from my laptop and I worry about hitting them and breaking something. My ideal thumb drive would be mini, 512GB, USB-C, all-metal with a solid key hole wide enough for a standard key ring. No such beast though so I have to either wait or compromise. I can wait a bit longer, thankfully.

Is this one of those super slow, corrupts in an instant and catches fire even when it's unplugged flash drives that I always keep hearing about on SlickDeals?
