I don't even use the fitness part of my Apple Watch that often.
I use my Apple Watch mostly as my main wallet and to get various notifications without having to constantly pull out my phone.
If you think those other watches do the same or better than the Apple Watch and they cost less, then you should get one of those others and it sounds like you'll be happy.
I've owned several apple watches. They're nice, but if you always have your phone with you - then a $100 fitbit etc is plenty. I wear a fitbit sense 2 24/7 that I got for $80 from Amazon back in October. I throw it on the charger for the 5min I'm in the shower each morning and that's plenty. I've gone almost a week without charging it before too.
I don't need a "phone" on my wrist. But, if the idea of only taking your watch with you on a run and still having cellular/making calls/streaming appeals to you - I can see the value. Or other situations where you can't keep your phone on you at all times.
The smaller form factor of the fitbit plus battery life yet I still get notifications, ecg, afib detection, and all the fitness stats for a fraction of the price, it's a win for me.
