Not sure what I did differently but although the A23 5G I just received have full bar with Tmo postpaid sim, I was NOT able to make a call. I activated with the Metro sim card first to begin the 6 month u lock clock. Same with the Moto stylus, after one month, it registered on Tmo network and able to make call, use data but next day that stopped.
Thanks. I wonder if it locks to the carrier based sim first inserted.

If a current Metro customer do I activate with new sim first then swap devices? Or can I just put old sim in and activate that way. I dont care about unlocking as I use Metro

I'm not sure how you got them to place an order over the phone.

I called and they told me to place an order online or go to the store.
The rep on the phone told me the exact same thing.
But I didn't accept that runaround, so I explained in a very tactful manner that left the rep indefensible for suggesting that I go to a store or try again online.

Once the rep saw I had a very valid point, there was no problem at all in making the order. In fact after the order was completed the rep asked nicely if there was anything else that I needed or that they could help with, and that's when I said "Yes" and easily added another phone order.

I explained that their website is so dysfunctional for the customer and that I already spent time submitting all my order info online and got 99% thru the online order process, only to be told on the website to "call customer service".
So it's not like I was just calling the number to place an order and bypassing all other ways.
The rep realized the BS the site puts us thru.
You simply allowed them to give you the runaround.

Only thing that worries me is 4GB of ram which is on the lower end. Brand new phone will feel snappy right out the box but after few app installs, couple windows opened, and future OS updates, I can foresee phone slowing down like the A10. I'd go with 6-8GB ram.

Just did two in a row, single orders, no VPN or cache clearing or private browsing needed, but using Chrome as suggested. $50 per shot on virtual card numbers generated from Citi, if that does any good. These will be stuffed in a drawer to wait for kids' new school year- then I'll use their T-Mobile lines to get my wife and I A54 upgrades when they finally release to replace our dying OnePluses.
Which OP you on? I have 7T technically still works great with maybe 1 annoying bug but can live with it. I'm trading it in for OP11. Probably the safer phone to use vs A23 but free phone still got me perusing as I tested out A14 and liked it.

Unless you gonna use it, it is a waste. You can't really flip it for a quick buck especially given 6 months wait for unlock

And they dont have any trade in value either

Yes, it is cheap, but it is still $50+tax you could spend on something you'll actually use

Just speaking from personal experience.

I have a 9 non-Pro (hate curved screen edges) and my wife has an N20 5G. My 9 keeps rebooting on its own, sometimes 15-20 times in half an hour. Wife's N20 (not N200) seems to have a dead battery cell. I'm not so happy about the reveal on the surveillance software reveal on the 1+ phones this month either, although that is so far only proven for China market firmware. I had a 6T that I was really happy with for 3 years until it got folded in half. I also love love love the current focused charging on the 1+ phones, but having extra chargers away from my huge octopus multi-chargers for travel. I also want to have SD slots back in my phones, and the A53 has enough power for what I need. I don't need flagship phones anymore- mid-range is fast enough.

If you were good with the A14 then this A23 should be plenty! Samsung makes good hardware- you just have to de-bloat them quite a bit. +1 11 looks nice, but waaaay different price class.

the wiki doens't answer my question. how do i "just stop paying" if they have my credit card on account?
Several methods can be used, but the best is to chat them after you get the phone and ask them to turn off the auto pay. In my experience, it is not user accessible in your account settings (contrary to what another poster advised).

Another way is to use a Visa or MC gift card with a small balance or none by the time the following bill comes due so that any future attempts to charge it will fail.
Another way is for Citi cardholders to create a virtual card that only allows a small charge to be made which you can customize. Same for the X1 card, and some others.

Note: I found that you can easily add a new different credit card and remove the original one after that via your account settings. But even if you had them disable autopay on the original card, it will be enabled again when you add a new one. I had to chat another time to disable autopay again.
