Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.
they both have the same camera sensor, you know this right?

I have placed an order and paid $40. Some one please tell me how to cancel the connation and get the phone free. Should I keep this connection active for more than 1 month ?

You can't. The service is pre-paid. It's essentially a $40 phone with a month of free service. Unless you cancel the order.

This seems like a better deal than the A23 deal for $50, but not getting any love like that is. Why?

It looks like I'm flagged. I got 2 back in December. Or Metro's system is FUBARed.
Their website is literally the pits. Had to put in 6 different orders switching browsers and CCs till I was able to snag a free N200 for gf. That was several months ago. The only positive thing with the experience is my cards were immediately refunded after they weren't able to process the orders.

I would encourage you folks to get A53 instead. I got this. It's a nice phone but the camera absolutely blows
You are absolutely full of it.

I was on the fence about this myself but i guess i dont use the camera enough to justify it over the bigger storage and ram. YMMV

Some of these phones will work straight out the box for tmobile. The N200 which is free and part of this 40 dollar deal worked just fine. Could even switch between the two by swapping sims and rebooting. YMMV

I bought this in december, it's an amazing phone for $40. you have to wait 6months to unlock the sim to use on other carriers tho.
Totally agree, this phone is amazing. I can directly use T-Mobile
after a month service with Metro.

I ran into the problem with the order processing. I went back and resubmitted and my order and it went through with no problem. I was going to get a Samsung A23 5G but they were back ordered. The Moto 5G Stylus (2022) was $40 and has received excellent reviews by the media. It's crazy they are giving these phones away. I have T-mobile lines. I am not in a rush to swap out the sim to see if it works. I will let it rip for a month on Metro.

People have said it will work on a T-mobile sim right out of the box. After 180 days you can completely unlock the phone.
