Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Totally agree, this phone is amazing. I can directly use T-Mobile
after a month service with Metro.
But would using on another service provider affect the 6 month wait before the phone unlocks?

You are absolutely full of it.

Moving to the cameras, the Galaxy A53 comes equipped with a quad-camera setup, which is headlined by a 64MP main camera with OIS. The other three shooters include a 12MP ultra-wide camera and two 2MP macro and depth sensors. The Moto G Stylus has a triple camera system, comprising a 50MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. As for selfies and video calls, the Galaxy A53 has a 32MP camera while the Moto G Stylus 5G has a 16MP shooter. On technical merits, the Galaxy A53 has a better camera system. In good lighting, both phones are capable of producing decent shots with rich colors and ample details from their main camera. However, in low-light and dark conditions, the Galaxy A53 produces better results. And it also has a dedicated night mode for pulling in more light when shooting dark scenes.

so before you make yourself look silly . do some real research or better yet, try them out before you comment. I've tried both these phones

If you're looking for the best phone that supports the most 5G bands of any they offer, this is it by a long shot... Pretty much an international 5G phone.

I was on the fence about this myself but i guess i dont use the camera enough to justify it over the bigger storage and ram. YMMV
They're the same in terms of RAM & storage, (6/128). I like Samsung's software update commitment for A53, but that phone requires a trip to the store, line port and more $ (at least $110). Those considering Samsung should wait and see if A54 deal at a similar price point happens this year, otherwise this Moto @ $40 without having to leave the house is a heck of a deal. Samsung is also a bit smaller (6.5 vs 6.8in), which might be a factor.

Galaxy A54 does 4K video (30fps, EIS only) on main, ultrawide, and selfie camera.

For photos, Moto G Stylus main shooter can turn in very good pictures, day or night, with gcam 8.x app. They are as good as the Samsung - more of a personal preference. But, no 4K video.

Expired, only find-a-store option now, which means getting additional fees and YMMV.

Metro's online order system is a huge/constant hit or miss. It also changes like the wind sometimes.
I got this deal in December and gave up trying to order online, as it locked on "Find a store". Most of the stores will charge you a $25 activation fee (per line/phone) and many even require a port-in for the 'instant rebate' free phone deal. The corporate store I went to required me to port-in and also required the $50 plan.
So either I had to do that or miss out on the entire December deal for these Moto G Stylus 5G (2022). At that time I wasn't sure the deal would return. Metro sux.

So it seems like we have 1 or 2 people saying this phone *does* work with T-Mobile out of the box and one person saying it *doesn't*. Anyone else buy this phone from Metro and try it with a T-Mobile SIM before unlocking?

I'm on T-Mobile and my phone is dying, so I need a phone sooner rather than later and I doubt mine is going to last another 6 months.

I'm hoping to be able to do a factory reset to remove all the Metro apps (if they won't uninstall), since I like to strip out as many unused apps as possible. If anyone has tried a T-Mobile SIM before unlocking or, even better, factory reset this phone and then tried a T-Mobile SIM, I'd love to hear if you had any success or not. TIA
