Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

it says these specs....

GSM: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz; LTE Roaming: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 20, 25, 26, 38, 39, 40, 41, 48, 66, 71; UMTS: Band I (2100), Band II (1900), Band IV (1700/2100), Band V (850), Band VIII (900); 5G: n1, n2, n5, n12, n14, n25, n26, n29, n30, n41, n48, n66, n70, n71

which ones do verizon use?

unlocking does not override firmware limitations
Verizon mainly uses 2,4 and 13 so this phone should be good on the 4G network yet Motorola usually releases different versions of the same phone per carrier, if you purchased this device from Visible the model number will be XT2215-1 while Metro one is XT2215-4

It could be only 5G related difference per model so I wanted to make sure if someone already tried to confirm it works on any carrier that uses Verizon network

the identity check at the end of the order is creepy.

Is it using my credit card info to ask me my previous addresses?

even though it does not have my ss#
I had the same creepy 5 security questions at the end asking for previous address les and relative names. I don't believe it's from my credit card. It must have matched my name and billing address and pulled my credit history directly. I do have the Samsung A14 5G from a month ago and I didn't get asked any of these question last month. I did not give out my SSN. On the Samsung A23 5G post somebody mentioned these security questions. Creepy.

Does this phone or Metro phones in general work with Visible/Tracfone after being unlocked.

This one has the bands to work on the Verizon network but I am not sure if Metro blocks non T-Mobile bands on their phones
metro should have been selling this phone for at least 6 months, too bad nobody has posted to advise which carriers, if any, are blocked from using it

guess I'll find out in 6 months

I was about to ask for the exact model number and here you are with the very information I'm looking for.

According to my sources, I should be able to flash retail firmware to this once SIM unlocked - Thank you!

I have had very bad luck selling anything on Facebook Marketplace.
Not sure I want to take a risk even if it is only $40.

Did you read the Wiki? "Almost" everything you might want to know about this deal is in there.

Side note: No longer available online as of this post. Tried to pickup a 2nd one for the missus and only option is "visit store." NOT!

Flippers are killing this again. Maybe in a few days - sigh...

Nice!
Would you come back and post here if successful? I'll be checking this thread when I unlock mine.
It's been years since I've flashed firmware, so would be interested in where you d/l it from, version, and the steps taken. TIA.

does motorola make it easy to flash retail firmware? or jump through a dozen hacks?

I know LG used to let users download firmware directly from their website.

my tracfone stylus 2021 was not compatible with ATT, despite the moto list

https://motorola-global-portal.cu...patability

I wasn't whitelisted.

So I was wondering if this metro branded phone had some restrictions as well compared to a phone sold by motorola.
T Mobile can lock the bootloader, which would prevent the user from installing the stock firmware. In the past, T Mobile usually play nice with ATT towers (all my T Mobile phones work with ATT sim).

Ordered one motorola g stylus 5G on my iPhone using safari. Didn't even see any problem like last time ordering the Samsung A14 5G. The only difference is this time it checked my credit history and asked me 5 security questions only seen from pulling my credit history.

Does anyone know if this motorola g stylus 5G comes with a stylus (pen)? This picture in metro doesn't show the stylus but other website shows it
One pen and one 256MB memory card.

I got this phone back in 12/2022 and been sitting in the box since. I was wondering, after unlocking the bootloader and installing the default firmware from Motorola's Tool, would that be an issue for the phone to unlock after 180 days?

My point is... should I wait to unlock the bootloader until Metro unlocks the IMEI first?

https://unlocktechy.com/motorola-...bootloader
I would wait for the unlock before installing the stock firmware since the unlock procedure may look for certain flag in the custom T Mobile firmware.

I cannot unlock the bootloader with my T Mobile Samsung A21. If this holds true for the Motorola Moto G stylus, then we are stuck with the T Mobile firmware.

Definitely. The unlock mechanism is part of the original carrier-specific firmware.
