Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Does this phone has to be unlocked in the US? Or it should be unlocked after 180 days as long as I have access to wifi even though I am outside of US?

May be I am missing a point here. If we have to keep service for 180 days then technically phone will cost $40*6=$240. So unless someone wants to have Metro service for 6 months phone is still expensive than bestbuy $199 for 256g, isn't it?

You just need to activate it and put in a drawer or use as a WiFi only device. No need to be on service all this time. After 180+ days it will unlock automatically.

Thanks but in one of the QnA, someone mentioned that service has to be active for 180 days to unlock.

When I click Pay, under Pay as Guest I type my no. and then I get this message:

Sorry, the phone number does not match our records. Please try again with a correct Metro by T-Mobile phone number. "

Anything I am doing wrong?

Your logic is puzzling.
Yes, Moto operates perfectly fine on T-Mobile network and Samsung operates perfectly fine on ATT.
That's the reverse of what you implied in your answer to his question.
Motorola is a free agent handset maker. Samsung is top tier. Motorola includes all of the bands or close to it of all three major carriers because they do not have exclusive deals with carriers.

So get them both and prove me wrong.

Just managed to complete an order after like a million "Sorry, we are currently experiencing technical issues-please try again."

There is still no ADD TO CART option currently, but I already had it to the ordering point in a different browser. There is literally no rhyme or reason for this going through though. Just sheer luck and determination. I think you really just have to get it in cart and keep trying periodically by refreshing if you get the "Sorry, we are currently experiencing technical issues-please try again.". You have to fill everything out every time after 3 failed attempts and a refresh. Super annoying website. Seriously trash.

I'm saying Metro is not allowing you to buy more than 2 per household. That's in their T&C for this deal.
well I just did.

Not a bad idea to login to the online account just to make sure that Autopay is turned off. I mean I haven't seen it turned on automatically, but peace of mind and all.

I also use it for the first month. It's data that's already paid for lol.

Does metro activate the line automatically if I don't activate it myself? I don't plan on using it until the 180 days are over.

I ordered it last week was it or just the first day it was posted. I was charged on my card but never received a confirmation email or anything. Should have saved my order completed page. And haven't received anything. Anyone else has similar experience?
