Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

you're lucky.

When I stand outside, the cell tower only a mile away, my 5g speed is only 12mbps max

the 5G "UC" signal gives me even lower speed.... 0.8mbps download and upload. !!!

less than 1mbps is unheard of.
I've never seen speed this slow around los angeles suburbs
I going to return mine. I am not paying $40 a month for lousy 5G service. A friend of mine has the same phone with TracFone and getting faster speeds. I guess T-mobile does not have coverage in my area. My old 4G phone was faster than that.

I called the local (authorized dealer) to see if its in stock. They said the out the door price would be roughly $150. They charge tax on the msrp, require a case and screen protector purchase also and a few other extras. I said I'll get in online for $40, its arriving today.

Can you choose between 5G and 5GUC? My phone shows 5GUC and has slow data speeds. ATT is also slow where I live. Verizon is the fastest.
Now I know T-mobile home internet won't be a good option for me.
You can't switch, the phone is simply telling you what the phone is connecting with. Learn to disregard whatever follows the 5G on your phone. Its not like we can do anything about it anyway.

I received the phone but when I try to activate the button "Activate" is disabled.
Anyone knows how to resolve this?

Would anyone know if there is unlock days counter. So if I activated the phone 10 days ago, when I click on unlock device shoud it say 170 days. All I see is the policy saying that Device must be used on this phone number for 180 days which is what their policy is.

I got an email with an activate button about 4-5 hours the phone was delivered and I called customer support to activate.

I just put the date on my google calendar to remind me, August 21 I think.

There isn't a built-in counter. I use an old school calendar and mark it there. I suppose you can put together your own counter if you wish.

It's pointless to return the device. They don't refund the $40 you paid for service. Let us know how it turns out.

You paid for the prepaid month of service, not the phone. It was free.

So, good luck with that. LMAOLMAO

I am a big fan of the Moto G Stylus 2020 so this is a great deal for the Moto G Stylus 2022. If I didn't have my Pixel 6a, I would definitely consider getting this. I don't want to keep on buying new phones that I don't need or after only 7 months of use with Pixel 6a. I would like to use a phone for like 3 years and then upgrade to really get that "3 year upgrade" feel. Try to wait for black friday 2024 or 2025 deals.

Unlike my T Mobile Samsung phones, this Motorola phone doesn't come with a start up/shut down T Mobile splash screen. No visible pre-installed T Mobile app, but ADB may reveal some hidden Metro/T Mobile stuffs running in the background. Many useful Motorola gestures like double tap to wake, double twist for camera, screen ON when viewing etc. Nice to see a built-in FM radio with preset stations.

Disabling pre-loaded Google stuffs like Google Play Services requires more work with Android 12 since it will trigger alert messages. My Iphone SE3 has a much faster processor so boot time is shorter by about 10 seconds. The use of virtual memory may help the Motorola shut down in less than one second. Both phones perform similarly when it comes to basic tasks like web browsing, talk, text, and GPS navigation,
